Today I propose to take a walk with me through the ancient city of Makaryev, which is located on the Unzha River in the Kostroma region. Of course, I've already told you about it, but we go from home to the office or to the nearest store, and every time we see changes in this area. Or don't we see it? Today I saw a lot of new things in the city where my wife lived as a child. I visit this city 2-3 times a year. I threw it into the family room. A group of several photos with a question to the children and his wife: Where is this place? But no one knew. My wife wrote: You are now the best connoisseur of the city of my childhood.

So. Yesterday at 22:00 I arrived in Makaryev, having covered 450 km, and this morning I went for a walk first thing. Oh yes, I drove about 200 km in the rain, which stopped in the morning. And that was good news.

Wow, I have a chance to walk to the city center and take a photo of the Cathedral in the very center, with the sunrise in the background.

I have always been surprised that in this city there is a footpath right under the windows of houses. I'm used to having a small front garden in front of the house, at least, with free space between the footpath and the house. It was also the first time I saw high fences here, so that no one could look into the courtyard. But... But you can look in the window!

alt

I think I made it to the city center on time. By the way, I have a police department on my right.

alt

I've told you about this Cathedral many times before. I don't even know whether it is working as intended or whether religious services are held there. In the early 90s of the last century, there was a cinema and a youth cultural center. Then the Cathedral was handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church, and for some reason it stood for several years with broken windows and no doors. It has been under restoration for at least 15 years, but very slowly.
Hmm... and now the city does not have a cinema?
About 30 thousand people live in my hometown, but now there is no cinema either.

Panoramic shooting. My iPhone has this feature, and I sometimes take panoramas.

alt

Exotic. The Street water pump. I haven't seen them anywhere for a long time. There is still no running water in many houses in this city. And it's even stranger to see this Public water standpipe in the city center.

The memorial stone appeared last year. Very interesting. It says:
Romanov Bridge. In 1619, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov's pilgrimage to the Makarievo-Unzhensky Monastery took place here.

I want to examine the reliability of this information.
It is clear that in those years there was another bridge over this ravine. And most likely this is an artificial ravine, it acted as a protective device against enemies.

One of the school buildings where my wife studied. Until 1917, this building, like all nearby buildings, belonged to the Monastery, which is visible on the right.

I used panoramic photography again. The Makarievo-Unzhensky Monastery for men. Last year, I walked on its territory and talked about it. Now I saw banners on the door banning video and photography with a camera or even a smartphone. What's happening? This is the second monastery with such a ban that I have seen this month.
Tomorrow at 3 a.m. I'm going to Moscow, and on the way, I want to stop and look at 2 monasteries. Will there really be a ban on taking photos there too?

alt

Why is this stone lying on the manhole? Who knows the answer? For the first correct answer in the comments, I will give 2 HIVES to the winner.

My wife didn't recognize this building. This is the school's former fifth building. Back in the spring, there were thickets here - bushes and trees. These are the changes. They started rebuilding the city park. What do they want to do in this place? Apparently, I'll find out about it next year.

alt

Modernization of the park is in full swing. Winter is about a month away. When will the ribbon be cut at the entrance to the park? It should probably happen this October.

Well, friends. You must be tired of walking with me. At this point, I'll say see you next time.
If you were interested, I'll show you the continuation of my walk around the city. This time it really turned out to be intense. And I'd like to finish it next time.
I have a meeting with my daughters, my son-in-law, and my grandchildren ahead of me. They won't let me post here. I'll probably be gone for a week. Or I'll try to write short little posts.
