Hello, my friends.

I haven't written anything about my trip to Karelia for a long time.
If any of my subscribers still remember, then I stopped at the inspection of the old Finnish kirch, in which a small museum is now organized. The organizers of the museum are going to use the earned money to restore the church.

So, I continue my story about my trip to Karelia in August of this year.
For those who have not yet read my previous posts about Karelia, I remind you:

  1. Valley of Waterfalls (53 photos)
  2. Karelia for 9 days (35 foto)
  3. The old Finnish kirch. Мuseum of angels

Today I want to tell you more about the Museum "Filina Mountain", which is located in the city of Lahdenpohja.
More precisely, this mountain and the museum are located in the vicinity of the city, on its outskirts, about 1-2 km away from the main St. Petersburg - Petrozavodsk highway.
Mount Filina is a misnomer for the mountain. In Finnish it is called "Huuhkanmäki". After the capture of this mountain by Soviet troops in 1940, the mountain with the surrounding area was named in the Russian manner - "Хуухканмяки". "Хуух" ("Huuh") is the sound of an owl. Therefore, they began to call this place Mount Filina.

What is interesting about this mountain?
The mountain itself is not a very high hill of various rocks, which was formed in various years of the ice age, by piling up different layers of these same rocks.
The hill is covered with moss and various vegetation.
In the 30s of the last century, the Finnish military drew attention to this mountain. In this place they built a small military town, and inside the mountain they located a warehouse and a military headquarters.
Now inside the mountain there is a museum with various exhibits of the Finnish-Soviet wars.
I learned quite a lot of interesting information about the period from 1918 to 1922. It turns out that at this time there were 2 long-term military conflicts that were practically not mentioned in Soviet history textbooks

These are the armored caps located at the entrance "to the museum". There is another entrance-exit to the mountain. A car can even drive there. There is a platform for loading and unloading vehicles.
In Soviet times, this bunker was also used by the military.

Actually, the museum inside the mountain consists of 2 halls. The female guide spoke very interestingly and in detail about the history of the Soviet-Finnish wars, about the period when Karelia belonged to Finland, answered clarifying questions from members of our tour group. But at the end of the tour, a new group appeared and we had to go to the exit. My daughter and I also went into a small shop, which occupies an additional small hall. Apparently, it was a kind of living room for security in the former time.

Why didn't I photograph the interior of the museum? Why didn't you fix the exhibits? I don't know. I was so engrossed in the story, touching various artifacts, that I completely forgot about my camera.
There is a reason to visit there again

Dmitry Medvedev, the third President of the Russian Federation, did his military service in this place.

Of course, I walked with my companions on the open territory of the museum complex. I must say that the T52 tank immediately meets us. Of course, this tank did not participate in the Soviet-Finnish wars and I think it was not here in the post-war period. Apparently, the organizers of this museum managed to purchase former Soviet military equipment somewhere and placed it next to the mountain for entourage and attracting visitors. Of course, military equipment is especially liked by children, boys.

There is also a T54-B tank on the territory of the museum.

I know all this military equipment, so I was much more interested and fascinated by the wooden sculptures that stand along the path that leads up the mountain itself. Karelia is very fond of wooden growth figures. In any case, there is a whole park of wooden figures in Lahdenpohya.

One of these figures is alive. I think that you, friends, have guessed which of the figures it is.

There is a very dense forest at the top of the mountain. Trees interspersed with stones, the path runs away in different directions and for a moment I realized that I did not know where my children had gone. Of course, I found them, it was a very interesting place - on a small area, on the top of the mountain there is such a dense forest and a large variety of directions.
And there are also "no mines" signs. But this is an entourage.

Well, all good things come to an end sometime. But the memory remains.
We went down the mountain, walked a little more, I took some family photos and we went to meet our next adventures.
Ahead of us, according to the plan, there was fishing, a trip to the marble quarry and to the island of Valaam.

Friends, if you ever find yourself in Karelia, you will pass through the city of Lahdenpohya, then take some time and visit this place. And if you still have children, then you definitely need to go there.
