A few weeks ago, I vacationed on Pulau Weh and visited several destinations. During that vacation, I also had the opportunity to climb Mount Jaboi. It's not a tall mountain like most mountains, but this is what makes the mountain I'm sharing so unique. Mount Jaboi is an active volcano with a crater that is still breathing to this day. It's located on Pulau Weh, the westernmost point of Indonesia.

I initially vacationed in Sabang to enjoy and experience firsthand the beauty of its world-renowned beaches. However, upon arriving on Weh Island, I can say that this island has two faces: the sea and the mountains. Mount Jaboi, which I'm sharing with you today, is proof that Weh Island is more than just about diving and snorkeling. In this area, you can experience two ecosystems while walking through the green forest while standing on volcanic soil. It sounds very contrasting, but that's my personal experience.
Located in Jaboi Village, Sukajaya District, this 200-meter-high volcano is a favorite tourist destination for tourists visiting Weh Island.

Upon arriving at the Mount Jaboi tourist destination, I saw one of the posts and the main command post on the mountain, and this is where the journey began.

The trail to Mount Jaboi begins in a shady forest area. The path isn't too long, taking about 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. But make no mistake, the air is so cool and the atmosphere serene. These are some of the pictures I took along the way. Along the way, I was accompanied by the sounds of birds, the rustling of dry leaves, and even the occasional monkey call in the distance.
You can also see in the picture that I shared above where this Path is covered with fallen leaves and there are even several small Gazebos on the side of the road that I think, the Gazebo is a resting place for climbers, besides, this is the part that I like from climbing Mount Jaboi, where I found peace while climbing Mount Jaboi, because the visitors are not so crowded, there is no loud music, but only accompanied by the forest and my footsteps with several visitors, which feels so calm that makes me far from the hustle and bustle of the city and also on this track the road is straight flanked by tall trees, so the vibes that I got at that time were truly extraordinary.
After about 30 minutes on the first track, the scenery began to change. The trees became sparse, the ground became barren, rocky, and grayish, and I began to smell sulfur. Welcome to Mount Jaboi! This signaled that I had reached the main area and was approaching the crater of the small mountain.

As soon as I passed a small, simple sign that read "Welcome to Jaboi," I was immediately speechless because the view was a complete 180掳 difference from the forest. The scenery I witnessed was also very different from the scenery I had encountered on the first track, where I saw a vast expanse of gravel and several dead trees. The weather was cloudy, but from a distance, I could see the green hills surrounding the area. This was Mount Jaboi.
Then my guide said that this mountain last erupted hundreds of years ago, but its volcanic activity is still active, where in some points there is still thin smoke coming from the cracks in the ground and the ground is also warm when I touch it, that's why many local residents believe that this area has geothermal energy.
Then my guide also told me that Mount Jaboi is not the type of mountain with a height whose peak offers a stunning view, but that is precisely what makes this mountain unique and makes it different from mountains in general, where Mount Jaboi is an active volcanic mountain with a crater that is still breathing to this day, and for me, climbing Mount Jaboi is not about reaching the peak, but about experiencing how nature can change drastically in just half an hour of travel, from shady to barren, from green to gray, from calm to a slightly tense atmosphere, so I think this is one of the natural tourist destinations that you must visit if you ever vacation to Pulau Weh.
Finally, if you ever find yourself vacationing on Pulau Weh and then start to get bored of the beaches, try setting aside the opportunity to visit here. This area is guaranteed to be a different experience. Furthermore, Mount Jaboi reminds me of how rich my country is, and even at its western tip, nature still holds surprises.
