Rice Cakes with Coconut Milk Sauces, Crispy Fried Bananas, and Stuffed Tofu With Veggies

Basically, Indonesia does not have special regulations regarding foods served at certain hours. Some foods can change roles, sometimes as breakfast, sometimes as lunch, or even dinner. But still, there are some foods that are only found or sold at certain times.

So this time I will invite you to explore some of the favorite breakfast of Indonesian people will be hard to forget by memory and the taste will last forever even though there are many new food variations that have sprung up.

You could say that the foods I show you are traditional foods. It feels classic but full of memory.

"LONTONG" means rice cakes, and "SAYUR" means side dishes consisting of several types mixed into one plate during serving.

"LONTONG SAYUR" is usually found in the mornings and is sold mostly at street hawkers and hawkers who travel around the area where they live in the countrysides.

"LONTONG SAYUR" is sliced rice cakes served with coconut milk sauces and various side dishes. Because it contains various components of side dishes, "LONTONG SAYUR" for breakfast is very complicated to make and time-consuming especially for busy people. However, "LONTONG SAYUR" is the choice of most Indonesians because it is filling and tastier than breakfast with rice in general.

Likewise, I have bought this "LONTONG SAYUR" and some other snacks from a food seller who has passed by at my house.

Before the Rice Cakes are Poured with Coconut Milk Sauces

Let's take a look at the side dishes of rice cakes before pouring the coconut milk sauce.

There are vermicelli noodles with red cracker crumbs. These vermicelli noodles are a characteristic filling in complement to rice cakes, but you can enjoy rice cakes without vermicelli noodles if you want to depend on your individual taste. When you go to a breakfast outlet, usually the seller will ask consumers whether they want to use these vermicelli noodles or not as a complement to rice cakes.

Then there is a mixture of tofu and tempeh cooked with spicy spices and a special fermented bean sauce called "tauco", and also cooked with green chilies which have a characteristic taste compared to red chilies in general.

After mixing all the side dishes on a serving plate, then the dish is poured with coconut milk sauce. For the coconut sauces recipe used in the presentation of "LONTONG SAYUR", there are various variations, but the most important thing is that the sauces are slightly greenish-yellow, not yellow-red like curry sauces.

CRISPY FRIED BANANAS

Bananas cooked with the deep-fried method that has been given a layer of dough of flour first.

I don't know why Indonesians like fried things so much, it must be unhealthy. Some snacks that are cooked using the deep frying method are generally also eaten at breakfast and enjoyed with coffee or tea.

These fried bananas are cooked with a layer of the dough of flour so that it has a nicer texture and is not mushy. In addition, the use of additional flour dough will add a crispy texture.

Another thing that is characteristic of Crispy Fried Bananas is the shape of the banana slices that do not separate from each other and form a fan.

To be honest, I personally don't really like this type of fried food for the reason it can have an effect on health if consumed too often.

STUFFED TOFU

"Tahu Isi" in Indonesian

Tofu filled with various types of vegetables including cabbage and carrots is a type of fried food favored by Indonesians besides Crispy Fried Bananas.

We can vary the tofu filling with various types of vegetables. The types of tofu used also generally vary. Sometimes we come across yellow tofu, white tofu, and even brown tofu with a thinner texture like mine today.

Stuffed Tofu **"Tahu Isi"** served with Indonesian chili sauce. As for the fried bananas, they can be served with a variety of sauces, one of which is a sweet sauce from *srikaya* fruit and sweetened condensed milk. But for those who like spicy food like me, I still enjoy fried bananas that have a dominant sweet taste with spicy chili sauces.

That was about some of the dishes for breakfast that the Indonesian people love. The dishes that I display on my blog are popular in the Indonesian part of the island of Sumatra. Meanwhile, the other islands have slightly different variations.
