I never saw before such a perfect duetto of professional disciplines that work so well together as ballet and photography. In the beginning (of myself as a photographer) didn't see it coming. I didn't even had a reference, not a clue. Then, only a few years ago, one Cuban photographer, Gabriel D谩valos, showed up with a very creative series of ballet photos that portrayed naked dancers all around Havana city. It marked a before and after for many... and for me too.
Then, one day, shows up this young ballet dancer from nobody knows where, telling me that she wanted a photoshoot. I was petrified!!! The first though I had was like "this is my chance to try it out" to "give it a shot". I didn't have time to think about getting paid or anything like that. I was just thinking on the opportunity and the huge challenge that was coming over.
So that was it. Despite thinking that all of this was not real or a joke, non of that. We agreed on a date and a magical place, the so-called Forest of Havana, one of the favorite spots in the city. And we actually met there on the day and the first thing that I like to do is just chatting to get to know each other so later the communication flows between us and we feel comfortable with each other during the photoshoot.
She didn't showed up alone. Her mother was with her, who helped me a lot with the light bouncer, and a friend ballet dancer so they would look like a couple making their moves. It was a perfect session for us all, no doubt about it. However, I think it was just that first time we all need to experiment new challenges.
In another post, I'll tell you about a ballet photography contest to which I sent some of these photos and others of this very same photoshoot, but edited in a whole different way. Stay tuned!
