Do you ever recreate a particular design because you've outgrown the first one?
Well, I asked because I noticed how much my mom loved a certain Boubou in her closet, She wouldn't stop complimenting the outfit and how much she loved it, She stopped wearing it because it had now become weak and the fabric had faded.
According to her, she bought the first Boubou while I was still in high school and it was one of her most expensive outfits at that time.
She loves wearing the outfit because she would go for comfort and quality over any other things her clothing offers.
I began to think of a fabric which would suit her lovely boubou and I decided to recreate the design for her with a touch of difference and class.
I quickly remembered she bought a tie and dye fabric popularly known as "Adire" in my country, especially the Yoruba dialect.
I felt it would be perfect to recreate her "beloved Boubou" she wouldn't stop talking about since the previous one was made of the same kind of fabric.
Here is the picture of the Adire, ready to become mom's favourite boubou.
I bought a matching neckline applique which would add more luxury to the outfit and now I proceeded to make my design.
Like I stated earlier, my mom hates any body con outfit so much which is why most of her outfits are Boubou and free maxi dresses 馃槅馃槅, the day I tried making her a very beautiful fitted dress, she complained about it being too tight and in no time she gave it out to someone, to avoid that from happening again, I decided to dance to her tune, even though I would love her to have a variety of outfits...
Here, I placed the fabric on the floor and cut out the neckline which was 3 inches wide and 3 inches depth for the front and back.
This outfit does not have a shoulder line, nor a sleeve/armhole, everything is cut together.
I placed the neckline applique to the front to get the perfect length of the front depth, since I would now be extending it to be Vee neckline.
Here is me trying to trace out the exact neckline with my soldering machine, sometimes I am always fortunate to have power supply on this kind of project, cause without it, I couldn't work with my soldering machine as the hike in fuel price would have even made matters worse.
After placing it, I have now been able to figure out the perfect neckline, the next thing I needed to do was to trace it out and cut it.
To prevent the fabric from frailing, I used a soldering machine to give it a beautiful cut and neat look.
And now, I have successfully traced out my neckline and see how beautiful it came out.
I forgot to cut out a lining for the back neckline, so I just used a matching bias to give it a perfect finish.
I went ahead to secure the neckline applique for the front, I prefer to secure it with a stick than a hem gum or other kind of gum because I've noticed with time, the gum fades away and it begins to fall out and leave a permanent mark on it.
I joined the side together and turned the sleeves and the hem of the boubou and viola.
Mom's favourite boubou is now recreated...

So, I presented this outfit to her and then she was so happy, that she has now joyfully discarded the previous one. She has promised to wear this for a function by the weekend.
I can't wait to see how gorgeous she will look in it, This outfit will be worn with a golden head gear popularly known as "Gele" in Nigeria and of course, this will bring in the Rich Mommy Vibes, so long she has me, she will always rock the rich vibes outfit any day and anytime.
