Hey lovelies 鉂わ笍
It's your favorite girl debbie-ese@debbie-ese 馃槏
Welcome to my blog 馃

In this post I will be sharing how to make a two piece top and trousers with asooke detailing on the neckline and on the trousers.

The outfit is for one of my customer's who is making the style again because she loved the one she made sometimes last year. So she needs the same style in another fabric.
This two piece is very stylish and can be rocked to both casual and formal outings. However, the ankara fabric she bought wasn't a good quality and she was unhappy that she couldn't spot the defect when she was buying. The fabric is one of those fabrics that would lose its texture once it gets inside water.

Materials Needed
4 yards ankara fabric
Asooke fabric
Hemming gum
Matching threads
Tailoring chalk
< 1 yard of interfacing

Measurements
Shoulder- 15"
Top length - 20"
Bust - 36"
Waist - 32"
Hip - 40"
Trouser length - 42"
Crotch - 32"
Waist - 32"
Lap - 50"

Step by Step

  • For this outfit we would start by making the top. So, I'd start by spreading the ankara fabric on my cutting table and draft out the measurements, shoulder - 15", bust - 15", waist - 32", top length - 20", and add 1.5" for seam allowance.

  • Next, I'd cut out the front piece and back piece and also cut out the short sleeves and add seam allowance also.

  • Next, for the neckline, I cut out the asooke into strips that will fit around the neckline, then I neatly used it to turn the edges and stitched it to give the neckline a clean finish.

  • Next, I attached the shoulder seams of the front piece and back piece, then attached the sleeves to the armholes and neatly sew the side seams of the top.

  • Next, I used hemming gum to hem the the bottom of the top and i used my pressing iron to give it a good press.

  • Now, for the trouser, I spread out the remaining fabrics and drafted out the pattern for the trousers on the fabric. Then I cut out two front and two back trouser pieces.

  • After that I cut out the waistband for the trousers and then sew the front and back pieces together at the sides as well as inseams. Then i joined the crotch afterwards.

  • Then for the asooke design on the trouser, measured the pocket I want and cut out the asooke fabrics and added allowance for folding the edge.

I placed it in the pocket area and sew it to the ankara trouser. Then i also cut the pocket cover and also attached it to the trouser.

  • Next, I hem the trouser and give the seams a good press.

  • Then to do the fitting and to check for any adjustments I placed the top and trouser on my mannequin.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
