There are two types of people in the world: those who always want to be the center of attention and love celebrating their birthdays—I’ve even met people who celebrate their birthdays for a whole week—and then there are those who don’t really like their birthdays or everything that comes with celebrating them. And if I had to choose a side, I’m one of those who DON’T like celebrating my own birthday. Maybe I don’t feel the need to celebrate because I don’t have many friends, or because my birthday brings back bad memories, but for me, the best gift is just being left alone, haha.
Although now that I think about it, I even have my birthday hidden on Facebook, haha. Back when it was public, I remember that relatives and friends I hadn’t been in touch with for a while would pop up and send me happy birthday messages. That made me feel uncomfortable and a little anxious—I don’t really enjoy the attention from other people that much, and if it involves singing “Happy Birthday” in front of the cake, it’s even worse...
On the other hand, surprising other people fills me with joy. I like to plan, pay attention to details, and think about the gift and the food. I love doing everything I can to make the day special for the person I love—even if I’m not with them. When it’s my mom’s birthday, I usually have her cake delivered to her house since we live so far apart, and that makes both me and the birthday girl happy. It’s my way of showing love, haha.
Coincidentally, my birthday is just a month away. When I think about what I want to do, the answer is still the same as always: I just want to relax in peace and have no one bother me, hahaha. Maybe watch a movie with my family… The best gift I could ask for at this point is for someone to cook for me and keep the house clean. All I ask for is the peace and quiet that I didn’t have on my birthdays when I was a kid.
