Over the past month, I had the opportunity to get a job that has made my life a little easier, since it’s something I’ve been able to do from home with a flexible schedule. But I needed an iPhone or a Samsung, and I didn’t have a phone from either of those brands, so I had to ask to borrow one. I brought it up as a joke with my husband’s aunt, and she said, “Actually, yes, I have an iPhone that I don’t use every day.” It was really strange because I never thought she’d say yes, hahaha, and since then I’ve been working on her phone. But obviously, there’s nothing like having your own phone—it’s awkward to work on someone else’s device and also have to be extra careful with it, even more so than with my own phone. That was really stressing me out, so I decided to save up to buy my own phone.
It took us 3 hours to get an iPhone 13. The thing is, everything is difficult in this country—buying a phone can turn into a headache if you don’t have the full amount or foreign currency. In my case, I managed to buy it on credit since I didn’t have the full amount, but everywhere I went, they wouldn’t let me pay in 6 installments (which was the most affordable option for me, and my credit limit allows me to pay in 6 installments). The prices in foreign currency paid in cash were really great, but the price in the local currency (bolívares) could add up to an extra $200—it’s crazy.
In the end, I found a place where the guy there treated me really well, and they offered the option to pay in six installments, so I was able to buy my first iPhone. Obviously, it’s not new, but we tested it in the store, and I learned the basics I needed to know about these phones and their battery life, which is pretty decent. I also bought a charger, a tempered glass screen protector, and a case to protect it.
And now I officially have my iPhone so I can work comfortably. It was pretty exhausting and stressful trying to get it, but I finally managed it… Although I have to admit that I was actually going for a Samsung S23, but it’s really hard to find since it seems to have gone out of style...
I feel kind of weird having an iPhone, and I don't really trust this new phone that much, hahaha, but let's hope it works well. So far, it's great, and the camera is beautiful—even though it's a small phone, it's pretty fast. Now I have to work really hard to pay it off as soon as possible, which has me pretty worried, haha.
