You might have read my weekend full of sausage and beer. it was absolutely amazing, but also a bit on the heavy side (on the body and on my pocket). I decided to do all home-cooked meals this week.

Trying out Orange Chicken recipe for the first time ever.

The first step was to cut up a fresh chicken breast into squares and toss it around a pot with about 1 cup of cornstarch.

I read that wheat flour is a nutritious alternative to cornstarch, with a higher protein content, fewer carbohydrates, and more dietary fiber than cornstarch, so I might give that a try next for a slightly healthier meal.

While the chicken was getting nice and covered, I went ahead and cut an orange in half and used some freshly squeezed orange juice, soy sauce, honey, olive oil and sesame oil in a pan. I brought it to a boil and tossed in the chicken.

Of course, what sense is there in making yourself a home-cooked meal if you're not going to do it with a glass of wine?

The answer is no sense at all. Poured myself a glass of Los Cardos Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 and put on a soul playlist.

Chopped up some fresh chives while the chicken cooked in the orange, soy, olive/sesame oil mix.

This is what it was looking like close to the end of the process. If I may add a recomendation, I felt like one orange was not nearly enough in terms of flavor or hydration. I would recommend trying 3 oranges for this.

I ended up squeezing an extra lime into the mix, but felt like it would have been better with only oranges.

When the chicken was done, I went ahead and threw them over a bed of white rice (my favorite) and garnished them with chives and some sesame seeds.

Dinner for two is served!
