Yesterday, I received a good news that my application to a state funding program was accepted 😊 I wanted to share my happiness with my family so I bought my favorite German cakes; Donauwelle and Bienenstich.
Donauwelle (left in the photo), which means 'Danube Wave', is a cake featuring layers of plane and cocoa sponge cake, sour cherries, and chocolate, crowned with a cream and chocolate topping. Since the cream layer is quite heavy, I prefer to have it for autumn and winter.
Bienenstich (right in the photo), which means 'Bee Sting Cake' in English, is a German cake made of a soft dough filled with a creamy custard and topped with a crunchy honey-almond layer. It was one of the first cakes I had when I started my life in Germany ten years ago. Since then, it became my favorite.
I started thinking what is other my favorites ... Schwarzwalderkirschtorte is my favorite too.
My mother, grandma and I liked this world well known cake and ate sometimes when I was still in Japan. But we, or at least I didn't know it's from Germany.
Classic Frankfurter Kranz became my favorite too. I thought I can find a photo but I couldn't ...
It's not much eaten in Germany but Baumkuchen is popular in Japan. My mother and I liked it. She sent me Baumkuchen from Japan to Germany sometimes.
I also like German simple home made cakes with fruits in season such as plum cake, apple cake, and so on.

昨日、春に申請していた助成金がおりたよというメールが来て（忘れてました😅）、なんだかうれしくて今日ケーキを買ってきました。ドナウヴェレ（ドナウ川の波、写真奥）とビーネンシュティッヒ（蜂の針、手前）という名前のケーキでどちらも大好きなドイツのケーキです。切り方が下手くそなのはご愛敬・・・ドイツのケーキは大きいので2つを3人で分けるのがちょうどよいので毎度こんな感じに切っています。
ドナウヴェレは、白黒スポンジのケーキの上に、さくらんぼのレイヤーがあって、その上にクリーム、チョコレートと波のような断面のケーキで、これでもかってほどにバターや砂糖が入っていると思いますが、寒い秋冬には特においしいです。
ビーネンシュティッヒは軽めでオールシーズンいける感じのケーキで、スポンジの間にカスタードクリームが挟まっていて、上にキャラメルアーモンドがトッピングされています。
ほかにも何かドイツの好きなケーキあるかなと考えていて、そうそう、シュバルツヴァルダーキルシュトルテも大好きです。このケーキは日本でも好きで祖母や母とよく食べていたのですが、少なくとも私はドイツのケーキだと知りませんでした・・・。
あとは、フランクフルタークランツというバタークリームのケーキも好きなのですが、写真があると思ったらない。。
日本でドイツのケーキといえばで名前が上がるバウムクーヘンは、ドイツで見かけることはほとんどありません。むしろ日本の母が日本からドイツに送ってくれてみんなで喜んで食べたくらいです。懐かしいなあ。
あとは、ドイツの家庭で作る季節のシンプルなフルーツのケーキも大好きです。
夏のデトックスに続く筋トレ＆健康ブームでしばらく甘いものを控えに控えていましたが、やっぱりおいしいですね・・・。食べ過ぎない程度に秋冬は甘いものを楽しもうと思いました。
