Happy Sunday Lovers
It is the beginning of the new week and we decided to kick start it with a most craved meal. We have been eating swallow all the time even on Sundays when other households eat rice and stew or jollof rice.
In the family house, food is always prepared in very large quantities and in a way that it will go round because of the number of people that are in the family house. Most times, the cost of the foods that are cooked in large quantities are put in high consideration. This is why eba and soup is the food that is greatly chosen for the family house.
One could buy or pluck lots of local leaves for soup, buy little soup ingredients and prepare a very large pot of soup. In addition one could buy garri or fufu (eba or swallow) which is sold at N100 per cup. If one buys a quantity for N2,000 or even lesser, it will be enough for the house.
Most households already have garri which they fry in their houses or fufu which they process locally. Having garri or fufu is not difficult, because almost every household owns a cassava farm and garri or fufu are all gotten from cassava tubers. Therefore getting garri is not hard. It is also one of the cheapest food items in the market which everyone can afford.
This is one of the reasons most households eat garri or fufu frequently. Garri or fufu and soup is a meal that carries lots of weight too as it gives lots of energy and better satisfaction and filling, compared to rice and stew, which is not that filling but expensive to prepare.
Most households only tend to eat rice and stew or jollof rice only on Sundays. Some people eat rice once every two weeks. This garri and soup is also good for people who do menial jobs that come with a lot of stress. Instant noodles or rice cannot really satisfy a bricklayer’s hunger over here because he needs lots of energy to do the hard work, being that they use their energy to mold the blocks while lifting it up and down.
Back to this Sunday, we prepared rice and stew for the family and everyone was so happy.
