I talk a lot about how quickly this city is changing evolving. I notice it even on streets that I walk on regularly. On occasion, however, I’d go somewhere I hadn’t been in a while and the difference just blows my mind clean off.

I was in Victoria Station, London this morning and what I saw astonished me a little. It must have been over 10 years since I walked out of the train station from the front entrance. I have been to Victoria station in the past decade, but I’ve always arrived by tube, exited into the main hall and out through the back where the bus station is. I have also been to the general Victoria area via bus, and on foot, but never to the entrance part in the last 10 years or so.

This is why I had to stand there for a few minutes just looking up at the changes, especially this pinkish-red glass monstrosity.

It almost seems as though there’s some kind of piss-take going on, or London has hired some bizarre ultramodern architects who are practicing their ā€˜art’ on the city. I mean, if more space is needed for offices and residence, I can think of a better design than what looks like a giant slice of pink cheese.

The iconic, Victorian look of Victoria is no more I’m afraid. Instead we have this bizarre mix of old and new with no apparent visual coherence.

Glorious blue skies

Yes I’m sure you’ve noticed the Caribbean sky in the photo. We have been blessed with bright days and blue skies for the past 3 days here, and we are set to get a few more. In winter, what that usually means is that it’s freeeeeeezing cold. Without the clouds to bounce back some of the earth’s warmth to us, it just escapes into the deep of space.

Of course the sky is not really blue either. It’s an illusion caused by our atmosphere, but that’s a different story for a different day :)
