A Chilled Weekend
A PARTY AND A BBQ MACHINE
Hey hey,
It's been a lovely weekend so far hasn't it. Apparently there was a coronation on Saturday here in the UK? Hmm. Interesting. I spent the early hours totally chilling, and then out in the rain across London to a leaving do - a sendoff party for an old friend leaving London for good. They're returning to their native Spain and a more relaxed lifestyle.
It was quite a bit of a turnout. I met said friend 16 years ago when they first arrived in London. Here we were, over a decade and a half later, a new leaf was being turned. Of course I've already started making plans to visit them in Spain, especially since they're from my favourite part of that country.
I was soaked from head to toe since I had to walk a fair bit of the journey and the rain decide to come pouring down harder than expected once I was already committed to the journey. Luckily I was able to dry off at the venue, thanks to the very powerful hand dryers in the loo. The way back to was less wet, but very dark since it was almost midnight. It'd been ages since I'd been out that late since I work late hours these days - and would normally be on my computer until I retire for the night.
Europe's tallest building was serving some major views as I walked past London Bridge, with the misty conditions adding an extra dimension to it all.
Sunday has been glorious and warm, being the warmest day of the year so far with temperatures in my parts souring to an impressive 21ºC. I took the opportunity to, well, chill again, and do a bit more out in the yard.
I finally got the BBQ machine out from under the waterproof fabric that's been not properly protecting it since the end of last summer. I must have counted a hundred snails and slugs and other such slimy crawlies fall out of the fabric. I tried to save as many of them as possible, but some of them had crawled to their own peril before I got to them. Or maybe they survived, who knows. I also managed to scrape off all the moss and whatever else had been growing on the rails and body of the machine. There's a bit of rust that I'll have to deal with during the deep cleaning before firing it up again - which will be soon.
The garden is doing well too. The strawberries are starting to flower and I can see the ants and other such sugar loving insects are loving it. The Josta berries are starting to form and they look very nice and healthy. The leaves of the Josta plant look very green and rich, which is a good sign that they're getting all the nutrients they need thanks to the good quality soil I have in the bed, and the foliage accumulated over the winter months. A special shout out, too, to the neighbour's cat who's consistently done her no2 there all this time.
The thing about this time of year is the grass needs mowing frequently especially since I don't want those digger bees this summer. A couple of summers ago they became a bit of a nuisance. It's meant to rain later tomorrow so If I get the chance, being a bank holiday, I will do the lawn bright and early since the grass has had time to dry off from Saturday's rainfall. We shall see.
