Kids nowadays are to be monitored very well because they are even behaving and acting wiser than their age. Should I say that advanced technology has played that role in their lives making them do things quicker?
Just like yesterday when mum gave birth to our last born. She is so beautiful. We all saw her grow and we nurtured her. She was a little slow before she started walking but after overcoming her walking stage, no one in the house had peace. She turned us to her Tom while she remained Jerry. We continued to chase her all around the house.
Hey!! Get back! Don't do this!! Don't go there!
At some point, I thought of tying her to her trolley, so I can have a peaceful rest or sleep. I tried sometimes but it was the biggest mistake I ever made with her.
She screamed and cried even though the sleep I wanted to have with peace was a story.
The older she gets the less we have rest. Mum said, aren't you the ones that asked for her? Now she is here for you.
The Trap.
Mum had always complained about some used cups in the kitchen. These cups are used to drink cassava flakes (garri) and are dropped on the floor in the kitchen instead of the zinc as usual.
She would scold my younger ones for doing such in secrecy. And why do they still have to litter the ground with the food? They tried to defend themselves but no one believed them.
This has been happening consistently, so Mum thought of swapping the bucket filled with cassava flakes (garri) with the one with Yam flour. At least they can't eat yam flour raw except when cooked. So they must take permission before taking the cassava flakes (garri)
One day everyone was outside gisting then I felt the absence of our last born, she should be out here with us playing and disturbing. I checked all around but still couldn’t find her whereabouts. I checked all the rooms and toilets, the sitting room and the back of the chairs but she wasn’t there. The only place that I haven’t checked was the kitchen.
When I got to the kitchen, I was surprised at what I saw. I saw my little sister sitting gently behind the kitchen door where she already filled her tummy with yam flour and water. I called everyone’s attention and we finally found the culprit of the cassava flakes. So as little as she was, she knew where to go and get a cup and spoon, and also settle her tummy with cassava flakes. Mum rushed to give her some medication, and since then she replaced the buckets in their normal places.
One year and four months.
Seriously, I don't know, maybe she was taught this from heaven, all I know was that she started doing it all of a sudden. She would always wait late at night till Dad arrives from work. No matter the time, at times if she had slept off before his arrival when she heard everyone greeting him she would wake up immediately.
Her next action is to get inside the kitchen and get him his food. She would cry so hard if anyone tried to do it other than her. There is a flask where Dad’s food is always kept so that it remains warm. She would get to the kitchen, carry out and serve Dad. After serving him she will remain in front of him sitting till he finishes eating then she will get the remaining food, eat it then pack everything into the kitchen again.
After doing that successfully, she will now get to bed and sleep till the next day.
Her sleeping pattern.
I thought pot belly is for the elderly ones alone. But my sister got one at a tender age. She is a foodie and everyone knows that. She is always not satisfied until the food gets to her throat and fails to get into her tummy again. Once she is done eating her portion of food, she would carry her plate around asking for more.
So due to her pot-belly stomach, she is always finding it difficult to sleep comfortably lying on her tummy. She will never want to try such a position unless her legs, head, and hands would be floating in the air as her stomach suffers the balance.
She also tried sleeping on the side but that won't work out, but she still gives that a second chance at times when she isn't fully loaded with food.
Facing upwards and lying her back on the floor is never an option. She would vomit all she ate.
To give a balance of all she has eaten as she cares a lot for the food as much as herself. She finally got a nice pattern of sleeping for herself. She would get on her knees, then place her head on a big pillow right in front of her. The pillow will serve as a balance to her head and hands while her knees will serve as a balance to her waist and keep her pot belly on a balance.
She was like this till she grew up to six years of age before everything vanished. Now she is the laziest and most stubborn child. She got spoiled the very moment she realized she was the last born of the house. But every time she tries to act smart we always remind her of her history and everyone would smile and laugh at her. She will be 15 this September.
