Live Aid, the legendary fundraising event organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, was held in front of a crowd of 72,000-strong crowd in Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1985. The star-packed Live Aid concert raised £127 million for famine relief in Ethiopia. And Live Aid will be turned into a musical featuring songs by David Bowie, Queen and U2.
Live Aid was a multi-venue benefit concert as well as a music-based fundraising initiative held on July 13, 1985. It was organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise more funds for the relief of the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia. Billed as the Global Jukebox, Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by approximately 72,000 people, and at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people. At the same time, concerts inspired by the initiative were held in other countries such as the Soviet Union, Austria, Australia, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, and West Germany. An estimated audience of 1.9 billion viewers watched the live broadcast in 150 nations, approximately 40 percent of the world's population at the time.
This was undoubtedly the power of music in my opinion.

Legendary fundraiser Live Aid is turning into a musical. The musical was written by John O'Farrell, who wrote Mrs Doubfire and directed by Luke Sheppard, who was director of Romeo & Juliet. The show, coming to the Old Vic early next year, will feature songs by stars including Bowie, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Elton John, The Pretenders, Paul Weller, Status Quo, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams and Diana Ross.
Tickets go on sale this Friday. According to the statements, 10% from the sale of each ticket will go to The Band Aid Charitable Trust, which works to fight poverty and famine across Africa. Additionally, select schools and community groups will have the opportunity to watch the show for free.
I love that the power of music is being used at such wonderful events and for such wonderful causes, music has such a wonderful power to bring people together. I wish such events were organized more. Also, I think it would be great if all proceeds from the sale go to The Band Aid Charitable Trus.
