With so many refuges to visit in El Bolsón, Río Negro province, it might be a bit difficult to choose which one to go to. However, when you are an enthusiast of trekking and hiking in the mountains, it can be easy to decide on one. While those closest to the town are the most chosen by most visitors, my friends and I, who had several kilometers of hiking on our backs, decided to go to the farthest one. It took us two days to complete the 25 km to it and I wouldn't say it was easy to get there, but the whole trip was very entertaining ❤️.
Habiendo tantos refugios para visitar en El Bolsón, provincia de Río Negro, podría resultar algo difícil elegir a cuál ir. Sin embargo, cuando sos un entusiasta del trekking y las caminatas en la montaña, puede ser sencillo decidirse por uno. Mientras que aquellos más cercanos al pueblo son los más elegidos por el común de los visitantes, mis amigos y yo que llevábamos varios km de caminatas encima nos decidimos por ir a aquel más lejano. Nos tomó dos días completar los 25 km hasta él y no diría que fue sencillo llegar, pero toda la travesía fue muy entretenida ❤️.
It was our second day of our scheduled four-day trek in the mountains and so far, we had already come across four refuges along the way. The good thing about aiming to visit the farthest hut is that we were able to see others as we passed. Using each one of them as a post to rest a bit, eat something or use the restrooms, we were able to get a general impression of each one. Then, it was time for the most difficult part, which was to continue the trail to the end, full of ups and downs 😀.
Era nuestro segundo día dentro de nuestro paseo programado de cuatro días en la montaña y hasta el momento, ya nos habíamos cruzado con cuatro refugios en el camino. Lo bueno de ponerse como objetivo visitar el refugio más lejano es que pudimos ver otros de ellos a nuestro paso. Usando a cada uno de ellos como postas para descansar un poco, comer algo o usar los baños, pudimos tener una impresión general de cada uno. Luego, tocaba la parte más difícil que era continuar el sendero hasta el final, lleno de subidas y bajadas 😀.
After having lunch at Refugio Los Mañíos and having visited its strange bathroom, we continued our way to the last refuge of the day. We still had about 8 km ahead of us and an estimated time of three hours more walking. According to our calculations, we should arrive there before 4 PM, with enough time to enjoy some of the day in that place. The funny thing about this part of the trail is that every kilometer we came across a sign giving encouragement. I must say it worked a little 😅.
Después de haber almorzado en el Refugio Los Mañíos y conocido su extraño baño, continuamos nuestro camino hasta el último refugio del día. Todavía nos quedaban unos 8 km por delante y un tiempo estimado de tres horas más caminando. Según nuestros cálculos, debíamos llegar allá antes de las 4 PM, con tiempo suficiente como para disfrutar algo del día en aquel lugar. Los gracioso de esta parte del sendero es que en cada kilómetro nos encontrábamos con un cartel dando ánimos. Debo decir que funcionaba un poco 😅.
All the accumulated fatigue after the great trail made me feel the last kilometer as the worst of all. Although the climb was not very steep, my legs were already weak and my back with the heavy backpack needed a break. At this part our group of three split up and everyone continued at their own pace. I was the last to arrive, about half an hour later: my pace may have been slow but it was safe 😀.
Todo el cansancio acumulado después del gran sendero me hicieron sentir el último kilómetro como el peor de todos. Aunque la subida no era muy pronunciada, mis piernas ya estaban débiles y mi espalda con la mochila pesada necesitaba un descanso. En esta parte nuestro grupo de tres se separó y cada uno continuó a su ritmo. Yo fui la última en llegar, como media hora después: mi paso habrá sido lento pero fue seguro 😀.
Los Laguitos Refuge is one of the most challenging in terms of hiking but also one of the most beautiful in terms of location. This establishment is located in front of Lake Lahuan and from it you can access other lakes, such as the famous Escondido Lake, or Soberanía Lake. This refuge, like the others, has camping space and also beds and mattresses to spend the night inside. The price of these services was $8 and $15, respectively. The facilities were comfortable, with plenty of space for visitors, and had a fireplace for heating and a large window to see the surrounding landscape 😀.
El Refugio Los Laguitos es uno de los más desafiantes en cuanto a caminata pero también uno de los más lindos en cuanto a ubicación. Este establecimiento se encuentra enfrente del Lago Lahuan y desde él se puede acceder a otros lagos, como el famoso Lago Escondido, o el Lago Soberanía. Este refugio, al igual con los demás, cuenta con espacio de camping y también camas y colchones para pernoctar puertas adentro. El precio de estos servicios era de $8 y $15, respectivamente. Las instalaciones eran cómodas, con bastante espacio para los visitantes, y contaba con chimenea para calefacción y un gran ventanal para ver todo el paisaje de alrededor 😀.
Although I liked this lodge in general, something that I found quite shocking was that almost everything had a separate price or an excessively high value, not included in the rate of the lodge or the campsite. To charge your cell phone they charged $2, to use the shower $2, for a piece of fruit $1, a can of beer $6, a bottle of wine $10, the wifi key $10, a plate of hot food $12, even for garbage disposal there was a fee of $2 per bag. Also, if you were at the campsite, just to enter the shelter to cook, they charged $3 extra. I understand that these places are all a business and that being 25 km from the trailhead everything has a logistical cost, but this charging for each item separately was something I did not see in other places. Luckily, my friends and I had our own supplies so we only ended up paying the sleeping in the shelter and the shower fee, because with so much walking it was more than necessary 😅.
Si bien este refugio me gustó en líneas generales, algo que me resultó bastante chocante es que casi todo tenía un precio aparte o un valor excesivamente elevado, no incluído en la tarifa del refugio o del camping. Por cargar el celular te cobraban $2, por usar la ducha $2, por cada unidad de fruta $1, una lata de cerveza $6, una botella de vino $10, la clave del wifi $10, un plato de comida caliente $12, hasta por desechar residuos habia una tarifa de $2 por bolsa. Además, si estabas en el camping, solo por entrar al refugio a cocinar te cobraban $3 extras. Entiendo que estos lugares son todos un negocio y que al estar a 25 km del inicio del sendero todo tiene un costo de logistica, pero esto de cobrar cada item por separado fue algo que no ví en otros lugares. Por suerte, mis amigos y yo teníamos nuestras propias provisiones así que solo terminamos pagando la tarifa dormir en el refugio y la de la ducha, porque con tanta caminata ya era más que necesaria 😅.

Getting to Los Laguitos Refuge was our great achievement and marked the halfway point of our journey. I was glad to have been in good enough shape to have walked all that with my heavy backpack and without suffering any cramps or muscle pain. Being in such remote places in the mountains is a beautiful experience and a challenge on a personal level, which luckily I was able to accomplish successfully. And after seeing all those prices at the refuge, I knew it was worth it to carry all that weight on top of me 😅.
Haber llegado hasta el Refugio Los Laguitos fue nuestra gran hazaña y marcó justo la mitad de nuestra travesía. Me alegró haber contado con el estado físico suficiente como para haber caminado todo eso con mi mochila pesada y sin sufrir algún calambre o dolor muscular. Estar en estos lugares tan remotos dentro de las montañas es una experiencia hermosa y un desafío a nivel personal, que por suerte pude cumplir satisfactoriamente. Y después de haber visto todos esos precios en el refugio, supe que valió la pena cargar con todo ese peso encima 😅.
