New Tunes 9.2.2024

Hello music lovers! 🎢

Fresh releases, #newtunes!
A selection of eight new songs to brighten up your day, your weekend and beyond. If you've heard any of this, I'm glad you have, because the musicians aren't that well known.
Some of them have yet to come of age, and some of them don't care about popularity at all.

If you take a few minutes for each one it will be the support they need. But if you don't like something, just skip it.

SLIFT - WEAVERS' WEFT

Slift is a trio from Toulouse, France, who have been performing regularly since 2017, but in 2019 they opened up to a wider audience and started performing everywhere they could. Their music is a mix of stoner, doom and psychedelic and progressive rock. They have released five albums to date, the latest Ilion in January this year. I watched them live in 2019 and even recorded them, I think one of the last recordings I posted on DTube, unfortunately, post exists, but the recording video is gone. I have it in my archive, maybe I could put it on 3Speak? I'll see if it's possible because I don't want to open new posts on Hive.
Anyway, this Weavers' Weft song is a bit longer, I like psychedelia wrapped in a sci-fi story. Humanity has failed the exam...

ULTRA SUNN - Shake Your Demons

Ultra Sunn is a band from Brussels, Belgium. They started in 2019 with EDM and coldwave sounds. A carefully tailored line-up of analog synthesizers and industrial drum machines with a velvety vocal that (at least to me, or maybe it's a production thing, reminds me of Depeche Mode's vocals) sings about self-fulfillment, gender equality, the fight against anxiety and discrimination, always with a strong and positive spirit.
In just a few years, they have gained thousands of followers and are performing all over the world. If they keep up this musical machine, they can climb quite high.
A week ago they released the single Shake your Demons, which is a teaser for their third album USA, which is out this April.

Urban Heat - Sanitizer

Urban Heat is an American trio from Austin, Texas. They call themselves a synth-post-punk band, exploring the dark sounds of the 1980s with touches of modern electronica, pop sensibilities, and a dash of industrial gothic.
Certainly very melodic and energetic, they have released one album Wellness in July 2022 and twelve singles so far. The last one, Sanitizer, was two weeks ago.

Hot Garbage - Mystery

Hot Garbage is a four-piece Canadian band from Toronto that started making music in 2017. They have built up quite a loyal following in Canada and the US, where they perform the most. So far they have released 2 EPs and 2 albums. They find inspiration in the guitar sounds of Sonic Youth and Iggy Pop and the Stooges from the sixties. This can be heard on their latest, second album Precious Dream, released in January this year but with a shoegazer approach to using a whole range of sound effects on guitars and bass.
The song Mystery was the trailer for the second album, and was released as a video a couple of days before the New Year.

Jonas Albrecht - LEIB

Jonas Albrecht from Lucerne, Switzerland, is a percussionist and, as he says, meditation is the time he spends with his drums. He plays in two bands, the krautrock-noise band Film2 and the fusion band Inuit Pagoda. This year he decided to release a solo album Schrei Mich Nicht So An Ich Bin In Trance Baby, or Don't yell at me because I'm in a trance, baby.
At first, he didn't intend to share this aggressive drumming with the rest of the world, because for him it meant escaping into a trance, where any kind of screaming and pressure wouldn't reach him.
In his violent drumming, the dynamic polyrhythm of dance music, often defined as African music, comes to the fore. A constant undulating rhythm, which is also strongly influenced by the typical techno and trance. A meditative ritual which, through purification, achieves the bliss it longs for.
I would also love to have a drummer like him in the band :)

Dylan John Thomas - Melancholy's Cure

Dylan John Thomas is a 25 year old singer-songwriter from Glasgow, a new discovery for me, completely by chance, I read a text where the writer said that if someone has the name Dylan (and he meant Dylan Thomas, the poet) then he can't be bad. Ha, but later he found out that he was named after Bob Dylan, who was later his musical role model. Well, Bob Dylan did take his last name from a poet Dylan Thomas... Strange are the ways of fate...
And I was intrigued and went looking for him. But maybe this indie pop based on folk tradition is a continuation of the troubadours? What do I know, I recommend listening to the whole album of these nice songs. Melancholy's Cure is a kind of bouncy tribute to the sixties.

The Last Dinner Party - Nothing Matters (Sound Of 2024)

The Last Dinner Party is an all-female English indie rock band, first heard of them, apparently they had a big hit last year with Nothing Matters, which opened the door for them to go up on all streaming platforms. After a successful year, they have their debut studio album Prelude To Ecstasy.
As the musicians said:

This release represents a pendulum that swings between the extremes of human emotions, from the ecstasy of passion to the sublimity of pain, which is the concept that connects our album and explores ourselves.
If you're backed by one of the world's major media houses, you're (probably) doing something right.

Nemeček - Os Svijeta

Nemecek is a power rock trio from Zagreb, Croatia. They emerged on the music scene in 2017 and have released three albums so far. Their latest, Prokletije II, was released a week ago. With their music, they offer us a glimpse into a dystopian blend of krautrock and Balkan psychedelic traditions that call to mind the old times and those yet to come.
Pounding, rhythmic and technically accomplished, they are currently on tour in the Czech Republic and Hungary, and I would love to see them live again. I recommend the whole album.
Os Svijeta in English means Axis of the World.

🎢That's all for today, enjoy in #newtunes!
