Barns of the Northwest! š
āIndian Summerā, and Silvertop headed out with the Mrs for a bit of exploring of the local countryside!āŗļø
So many of our local barns are starting to fall into disrepair, I wanted to capture some of these historic buildings before they slowly disappearā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦..
Many of these barns were built with only hand tools, using āOld Growthā Douglas Fir beams!
Itās interesting to walk through these barnsā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦..
The first thing Silvertop usually does, is look for fastenersā¦ā¦or lack of!š®
Tightly cut post and beam construction, many with wooden pegs discreetly used for the joinery!
Craftsmanship long gone, replaced with high speed pneumatic nail guns!
Douglas Fir beams, replaced with what the locals call āHem/ Firā!š
Iām not really sure how this terminology āStuckā, but basically lumber is now stamped Spruce/Pine/Fir, and 99% of the time itās only Spruceā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦..š®
Fantastic wood for acoustic guitars, not the strongest for construction!
As they say, āNot all movement forward is progress!ā š
So very true!!!!
These āOld Timersā and the Old Carpenters worked hard and long hours to proudly build these beautiful historic barns!
Hopefully many will be maintained for future generations to marvel at!š
For now, you have the opportunity to sit back and enjoy these photosā¦ā¦ time unfortunately continues to march onā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦š
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike š
