Hello, beer lovers! π»
It's a week again and #beersaturday is here. For the 346th week in a row, the oldest contest on the Hive blockchain social network invites everyone to join in and tell your beer story. Of course, it's all in fun!
And I can't be missing! :)
Today I have two bottles in front of me, a Slovenian and an American, very similar in style, and we can discuss the taste.
I will open the one with less alcohol first.
Hanalei Island IPA
Brewed by Kona Brewing, Kailua Kona, Hawaii, United States.
Bottle, 0.355 l, alcohol 4.5% ABV, IBU 40.
It's a Session IPA style, hoppy and fruity beer brewed with modern hop varieties and lower in alcohol.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Take in the laid-back tropical flavors of Hanalei Island IPA. Part of liquid aloha. Itβs like gliding through the calm waters of the bay below lush, green, waterfall-streaked mountains. Paradise is just a sip away, so leave your troubles in your wake.
What a fine description. I would like to be there too. π
The beer is golden in color, and there is little head. It smells of tropical fruit. The first sip goes smoothly down the throat, and I immediately taste the distinct bitterness of the hops in the mouth, along with tropical fruits, passion fruit, orange, and something more exotic. Guava maybe?
In the aftertaste, the fruit flavors slowly disappear, but the bitterness of the hops lingers.
A refreshing, juicy, and drinkable beer. Hopped with modern American fruit hops. The flavors are balanced and nothing is distracting.
Not available locally, but when I'm back in Ljubljana I'll check out the E-Lecklerk hypermarket because this tasty beer deserves a place in my fridge.
Some highlights from this afternoon's walk. Nature has not yet woken up from its winter slumber.
It's still quite warm, but there are no other signs of spring yet. We'll see tomorrow when we go to look for snowdrops.
Let's move on, one more beer to go!
Svarog Solar IPA
Brewed by Pivovarna Vizir, Δrnomelj, Slovenia, for the Eurospin retail chain.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.0 ABV, IBU N/A (4/5).
It's IPA - style beer, very hoppy with fruit nuances and less malt sweetness.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Different. Concrete. Hoppy. The base of Svarog is a combination of slightly roastier malts, spiced with four different American hops. A pleasant and refreshing beer with a pronounced bitterness and a very intense citrus and elderflower aroma.
New beer, they had it in the local Eurospin shop today and I just took it. By the way, Svarog is an ancient Slavic god and is considered to be the flashing sky.
The beer is light brown, with a little head. It has no particular smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly and the bitterness of the hops is immediately apparent in the mouth, of course, as it is supposed to be an IPA, but the fruity notes are more discreet, and there is more of a malty sweetness, honey, and caramel.
In the aftertaste, the sweetness disappears and only the hop bitterness remains for a while.
It's refreshing and tasty, and the bitterness is also solid, but the fruit nuances are not the most pronounced, more East than West Coast IPA to me. All in all, it's a harmonious and very good beer. Will some more find their way into my fridge, I'm sure, because I can get it locally.
Well, if I had to compare, I like the first one more because it has a touch of summer ...
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beers? Something from yesterday's #newtunes post. I'm a fan of The Dandy Warhols, I can't help it, another AI video from the new album ...
