The witch and the thoughtful man got a company. This time it’s the hunter - an Imperial Red ale.

Well, it’s been some time since I tried the stout in the Imperial stout with the witch and the Imperial IPA with the thoughtful stranger. There is another beer from the same series and this time it’s again an Imperial beer - an Imperial red ale. I guess that after tasting the other two, I shall give this one a try too!

Labeling is, of course, in the same design with a strange character on it, this time it’s a hunter who obviously killed a bear (is this a bear? Or a wolf?!?). Otherwise, because it’s from the same series, the design is completely the same. I have to say the image is a bit frightening, but will the beer correspond to the image? I’ve tried a lot of scary beers… 😁

As for the price, it’s again from the cheap $1,5 range, which for so strong beer is a bit unusual.

Enough for the labeling. Let’s dive into this can!

The color is dark amber-ish which is about the right color for an imperial red. I guess if it was a bit thinner, the color would be more suitable for the style.

The beer itself develops quite a good head and the foam is long lasting. The beer is absolutely clear, not even a hint of haziness. Overall, looks ok.

After I had this first sip, it reminded me of my not so good tries of homemade red ale. There is something about this special malt character which is not so well balanced in my opinion. I surely miss some hops, but after all at this price level, the buyer shouldn’t expect much. The beer has its caramel aftertaste, but the high alcohol levels and this malt character aren’t working great on my palate.

Of course, I finished it, but had a lot more pleasurable experiences with similar price ranged beers.

On the label it’s written that it is slightly roasted caramelized brew malt. I wonder if it wasn’t roasted, would it taste better? Maybe yes? I guess nobody really knows, but given the fact the brewers chose this type of additional malt processing means that this combination worked the best for them.

My overall conclusion… If I had to choose among this three beers, the first place and my favorite pick would be the Imperial IPA.

Secondly, I would choose the witches’ Imperial Stout that was also quite a goose beer, although not so delightful like the IPA.

The third place, obviously goes to the Imperial Red, which I cannot recommend at all and will most likely avoid in my future shoppings.

So, that’s for now! Wish you a happy Friday and a great weekend afterwards.
See you soon!
