Here's my entry for the 149th edition of the CCC's Street Art Contest hosted by @digi-me with a work created during the Mural Festival held from June 8 to 18 in Montreal. I don't think I need to introduce the artist, his style and his way of working with waste aren't unknown to the members of this community (especially thanks to @akida's posts on the city of Porto and Portugal in general). We're of course talking about Bordalo II.

Voici mon entrée pour la 149ème édition du CCC's Street Art Contest organisé par @digi-me avec une oeuvre réalisée pendant le Mural Festival qui s'est déroulé du 8 au 18 juin à Montréal. Je pense que je n'ai pas besoin de présenter l'artiste, son style et sa manière de travailler à partir de déchets ne sont pas inconnus aux membres de cette communauté (surtout grâce aux posts d' @akida sur la ville de Porto et du Portugal en général). Il s'agit biensûr de Bordalo II.

Halff Hedgehogg*

WHERE

On Saint-Laurent boulevard from Saint-Laurent metro station to avenue Mont-Royal. This big hedgehog can also be found on Saint Laurent at the Parc du Portugal on the corner of rue Marie-Anne.

Sur le boulevart Saint-Laurent de la station de métro Saint-Laurent jusqu'à l'avenue Mont-Royal. Ce gros hérisson se trouve aussi sur Saint Laurent au niveau du parc du Portugal au coin de la rue Marie-Anne.

Bordalo II

As I said before, Artur Bordalo aka Bordalo II, born in Lisbon in 1987, is a world-renowned artist whose work is based on objects found on the street. In his youth, he spent a lot of time in the studio of his grandfather, the painter Real Bordalo (hence his nickname Bordalo II). He studied for a few years at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, without graduating. In his work, he likes to denounce our society of over-consumption, and therefore the destruction of the planet, by reusing our waste for his works.

Comme je le disais intro, Artur Bordalo aka Bordalo II, né à Lisbonne en 1987 est un artiste reconnu mondialement grâce à ses oeuvres faites grâce à des objets trouvés dans la rue. Dans sa jeunesse, il a passé beaucoup de temps dans l'atelier de son grand-père le peintre Real Bordalo (d'ou son surnom Bordalo II). Il a étudié pendant quelques années à l'école des Beaux-Arts de Lisbonne sans obtenir son diplôme. Dans son travail, il aime dénoncer notre société de surconsommation, et donc de la destruction de la planète, en réutilisant nos déchets pour ses oeuvres.

For Halff Hedgehogg, Bordalo II asked the Montrealer for a few items before the festival. He had made a list of what he needed. Here's the pile that went into making it (photo below).

Pour Halff Hedgehogg, Bordalo II a demandé avant le festival quelques objets au Montréalais. Il avait fait une liste de ce qui lui était nécessaire. Voilà le tas qui a servi à l'élaboration :

I'm really happy to have a work by this artist in Montreal. No need to go to Portugal to admire his work. Although I wouldn't mind a few weeks there. Sun, beach, good food, beer and Street-Art, the perfect mix for a successful vacation.

Je suis vraiment content d'avoir à Montréal une oeuvre de cet artiste. Plus besoin d'aller au Portugal pour aller admirer son travail. Bien que quelques semaines dans ce pays me déplairait pas. Soleil, plage, bonne nourriture, bière et Street-Art, le mélange parfait pour des vacances réussies.

Very nice work with one part in black and white and the other in color with a dominant red. The result is really interesting, using the corner of the building to glue all this garbage together. I also like the foot made from construction site helmets.

Très belle oeuvre avec une partie en noir et blanc et l'autre en couleur avec une dominante de rouge. Le résultat est vraiment intéressant avec l'utilisation du coin du batiment pour coller tous ces déchets. J'aime bien la patte faite avec des casques de chantier.
