Peas Poha recipe(matar chooda)

Hello foodie friends,

Today, I am sharing a very tasty recipe with you called "poha Matar." It is a popular breakfast dish in India, especially during the winter season. Also known as "poha Matar" or "Matar Poha," this recipe is made using flattened rice and cooked with a mix of pea-based spices and roasted cashews.

During our trip to Varanasi, where we stayed at a hotel, we had Chuda Matar for breakfast every day. Two regular Varanasi breakfast dishes that were always present in the breakfast buffet.

Fresh green peas are usually available only during the winter, and some dishes taste best when prepared with fresh peas. However, if you don't have fresh peas, you can also make this dish with frozen peas.

The method of making Chuda Matar varies everywhere, but the essence remains delightful.

Ingredients:

  1. 1-1 ½ cups thick flattened rice (poha)
  2. 2 cup fresh green peas
  3. 2 tablespoons oil
  4. A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  5. 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  6. onions 4
  7. Salt to taste
  8. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  9. ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves

Cooking Method:

Step 1:

Start by placing a large sieve over a big bowl. Add flattened rice (poha) to the sieve. Pour water over it and wash the flattened rice twice. Set it aside.

Step 2:

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, finely chopped green chilies, and chopped onions. Fry the onions until golden brown.

Step 3:

Add green peas and sauté for a while. Now, add salt and washed flattened rice. Mix gently. Cook on low heat until the flattened rice absorbs all the flavors. Turn off the heat.

Step 4:

Finally, add lemon juice and mix well. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.

I have made this poha matar for 5 people, you can adjust the quantity as per your preference, whether less or more.

Serve hot and enjoy your delicious poha!

I hope you like this recipe.
