Here are three architectural diamonds for #trippythursday by @blacklux
These were all created from building photos I took in downtown Chicago.
The first photo is of the Burberry building on Chicago's magnificent mile. On a gray day this black shiny building is perfect to create an almost monochrome geometric photo for editing later. People typically shop at this building for overpriced plastic material that looks trendy. I wonder if they can appreciate the exterior of the building (there's not too much to appreciate inside lol).
The photo above turned into an interesting eight pointed diamond. This pattern could be useful for some kind of wall art or even repeated as a tile-able pattern for wallpaper. Or perhaps this is some sort of outer space mine that is magnetically attracted to ships passing by. Once attached it will penetrate the hull of the ship and suck out the oxygen.
Chicago has quite a few gray foggy days throughout the year. Most of the skyscrapers look quite ominous and serious in this sort of weather. The gray sky also creates a clean background for photo manipulation. Imagine having to live in this 70s era most basic brutalistic architectural monstrocity. You get to wake up to gray days then walk around gray city concrete to a beige office building to complete mundane tasks then return home to your 300 square foot closet to dream about having to pay taxes in a few months.
Here is what the manipulation of the condo building above turned into. It reminds me of some kind of floating portal that will launch you into a different dimension. Perhaps the boring gray condo building can be turned into a portal that will launch you into a brighter more natural place.
This is a photo of one of the corners of the Wrigley building in Chicago. The old school decorative tiles should form an interesting tile for a photo manipulation. Imagine the era where this building was created out of a chewing gum empire. They needed so many employees to manage the distribution of chewing gum around the world and could turn a profit handsome enough to adorn prime real estate in the middle of Chicago. No it is just office space for random smaller companies that come and go.
This one definitely has some sort of diamond theme to it. It kind of reminds me of a machine drone of sorts that floats around launching smaller diamonds at interesting planets to spy on them. Perhaps the diamonds also contain chewing gum in them to relate back to the old days of the Wrigley building. I wonder how the inhabitants of the various planets will respond to sweet chewy substrate? Perhaps it will be perceived as a threat to some life forms without teeth...
I may try animating some of these architectural photo manipulations sometime. These geometric building crops could make for an interesting kaleidoscope animation along with some original music of course.
