All in one day

ScinTech, a company in Ghana, selected Kudus to lead Innocent on a trip to Texas for a contract deal that demanded physical negotiation between the two companies. It was an all-expenses-paid trip for two days, and they were all preparing for the next day. The flight was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. the following day, so they were told not to bother reporting to the office but to go directly to the airport.

Early the next morning, around 8:30 a.m., Innocent went to Kudus's house to submit some files for their trip. On arrival, he found Kudus battling a runny nose with a handkerchief placed on his nose, and he's breathing heavily.

"When did this start? You need to take pills to tackle this because it won't be nice to go on the trip with such," Innocent expressed concern.

"Bro, it started this morning, and I've been dodging taking medication because all catarrh pills are sleeping pills. You know, I might sleep off and miss my flight," Kudus explained while using his handkerchief to cover his nose and pointing at the catarrh pills he had brought but couldn't take due to the fear of falling asleep.

"No, no, you can't go on such a trip as this. Don't worry; you're not going to sleep off. I'll be in touch. In fact, I'll come to your house by 1:00 pm so we can go together in case you sleep off."

"Bro, I know how this works. My body uncontrollably launches into deep sleep anytime I take this. Unless you're really going to keep your promise."

Fully assured, Kudus went to the kitchen, took a sachet of water, and swallowed the pills while Innocent left, promising to return by 1:00 pm so they could go together.

Immediately after Innocent left, the force of drowsiness overwhelmed Kudus, and he fell asleep on the couch.

Upon waking up, he stretched his hand to his phone to find, 3:30 pm, 17 missed calls from Innocent and the ScinTech Manager boldly displayed on the screen.

"Jesus!" He jolted up from the couch, and in his shock, his phone slipped from his hand, which he dived like a goalkeeper to catch, but the phone was faster; it landed on the tiled floor.

Fear intensified as he picked it up to discover the screen shattered. He tapped heavily on it, but nothing showed up. He stood there, pressing the phone anxiously, hoping it would come back to life, but to no avail; it was totally blank.

Not knowing what to do, he rushed to the bathroom, contemplating whether to bathe or not. Eventually, he decided to rush out as he was. He dressed up in a navy blue coloured trouser, a white long sleeve shirt and over bathed his body with his expensive perfume. He picked up his briefcase, ran outside, and entered his car.

As he drove to the entrance of his compound, he paused, sweat soaking his face and body, unsure where to report first—the office or the airport. He picked up his phone again, hoping for a miracle, but it remained blank.

Finally, he decided to go to the airport first. He drove down to the airport with speed, full of anxiety and hoping the plane would be waiting for him, despite it being 3 hours late already. Along the line, thoughts of reaching Innocent kept flashing, which made him pick up his phone to see if it was working to reach him, but none of the attempts worked.

Fifteen minutes later, he arrived at the airport only to be told he had missed his flight and needed another schedule. Unsurprised, he decided not to reschedule and drove to the office, where he learned that Innocent had an accident and was admitted to the hospital.

"What's happening?" With frustration written all over him, he sat down on the long couch in the reception of the office, looking around and imagining the ordeals of the day—he slept off via catarrh pills, his phone got damaged, he missed his flight, and now Innocent, who promised to go with him, is admitted to the hospital. He tried as much as possible to curtail his troubled mind; he picked up his phone from his pocket, still blank.

"Mtcheeew," he hissed, got up, walked to his car, and drove off to the hospital where Innocent was admitted.

Innocent only sustained some bruises on his legs, which actually made him unconscious due to the shock.

Fortunately, he was up when Kudus entered the hospital. He explained that he had an accident while attempting to pick him up as promised. He called him countless times, but he didn't answer the calls, giving the impression that he had already fallen asleep. In the end, the trip was cancelled without query, and Innocent's life was considered more important.
