Hello again from Mexico City! I'm discovering new quarters here almost every day and I'm always impressed by how versatile the Mexican capital is. Today I'd like to tell you about a district that doesn't seem typically Mexican to me at all. At least that's what I would have said before my visit. In this post, I want to explain to you what makes Condesa so special and unique from my point of view.
Hello again aus Mexiko City! Ich entdecke hier zur Zeit so gut wie jeden Tage neue Stadtviertel und bin immer wieder beeindruckt davon, wie vielseitig die mexikanische Hautstadt ist. Heute möchte ich euch von einem Viertel berichten, das für mich eigentlich überhaupt nicht typisch mexikanisch wirkt. Zumindest hätte ich das vor meinem Besuch gesagt. Was Condesa aus meiner Sicht so besonders und einzigartig macht, möchte ich euch in diesem Beitrag kurz zusammenfassen.
When I was researching the best areas for accommodation in CDMX, I came across Condesa for the first time. Hardly any other district has been recommended so often by YouTubers and bloggers. And indeed, there is an international flair noticeable in Condesa. You can see lots of tourists and expats wandering the streets. You can listen to English conversations at every corner and you can find many stylish, well-visited cafés, bars and restaurants.
Schon als ich mich vorab über die besten Gegenden für eine Unterkunft in CDMX informiert habe, bin ich erstmals auf Condesa gestoßen. Kaum ein anderes Viertel wurde so oft von YouTubern und Bloggern empfohlen. Und tatsächlich merkt man ein internationales Flair in Condesa. Man sieht hier jede Menge Touristen und Expats durch die Straßen ziehen. An jeder Ecke kann man englischen Gespräche lauschen und ständig trifft man auf stylische, gut gefüllte Cafés, Bars und Restaurants.
But what makes Condesa so unique within Mexico City is the relaxed atmosphere and the vegetation. There is very little traffic here and therefore very little noise. Almost every single street is lined with trees and apart from the many colorful house facades, green is clearly the dominant color. Mexico City is exceptionally green in general, but here you sometimes feel like you're in a jungle city. But you can see it for yourselves in the pictures.
Was Condesa aber innerhalb von Mexico City so einzigartig macht, ist die entspannte Atmosphäre und die Vegetation. Es gibt hier sehr wenig Verkehr und somit auch sehr wenig Lärm. Fast jede einzelne Straße ist mit Bäumen gesäumt und abgesehen von den vielen bunten Hausfassaden ist ganz klar grün die dominierende Farbe. Mexico City ist allgemein schon außergewöhnlich grün, aber hier kommt man sich teilweise vor, wie in einer Dschungelstadt. Aber ihr seht es ja selbst auf den Bildern.
La Colonia Condesa, as the district is often called, is also considered to be particularly safe. Because of the relaxed atmosphere, you really do feel in good hands here. While in other areas of the metropolis I would never walk around alone at night with my photo equipment, I would have rather few concerns here. Although the perceived safety does not always correspond to the real safety, there seems to be some truth to it in this case.
La Colonia Condesa, wie der Stadtteil auch genannt wird, gilt außerdem als besonders sicher. Aufgrund der entspannten Atmosphäre fühlt man sich hier tatsächlich sehr gut aufgehoben. Während ich in anderen Bereichen der Metropole niemals nachts allein mit meiner Foto-Ausrüstung herumspazieren würde, hätte ich hier eher wenig Bedenken. Zwar entspricht der gefühlte Sicherheit nicht immer der realen Sicherheit, aber in diesem Fall scheint doch etwas Wahren dran zu sein.
After my walk, I could definitely understand why so many tourists choose Condesa as their base for their time in Mexico City. However, I personally prefer more lively quarters and therefore I am absolutely happy with my decision not to book an accommodation here. But if you are looking for a peaceful, green oasis in the middle of the urban jungle, Condesa could be an option for you.
Nach meinem Spaziergang konnte ich durchaus nachvollziehen, warum so viele Touristen Condesa als Basis für ihre Zeit in Mexico City wählen. Ich persönlich stehe aber auf etwas belebtere Stadtviertel und bin deshalb mit meiner Entscheidung absolut zufrieden, nicht hier eine Unterkunft zu buchen. Wenn ihr aber eine gemütliche, grüne Oase mitten im Großstadt-Dschungel sucht, könnte Condesa für euch durchaus eine Option sein.
