¡Buenos días, amigos! After three days in Mexico City, I would like to share my first impressions of this gigantic metropolis with you. So far, I have spent time in two different neighborhoods. I would like to start with the Reforma area, where my accommodation is located. I chose this area because it is very modern on the one hand and relatively safe on the other.
¡Buenos días, amigos! Nach drei Tagen in Mexiko City möchte ich euch nun meine ersten Eindrücke von dieser gigantischen Metropole mitteilen. Bisher habe ich mich in zwei verschiedenen Stadtvierteln aufgehalten. Beginnen möchte ich mit der Gegend Reforma, in der sich auch meine Unterkunft befindet. Ich habe diesen Bereich gewählt, da er einerseits sehr modern und andererseits auch relativ sicher ist.
Paseo de la Reforma is one of the most famous streets in the city. The tallest skyscrapers in Mexico are also located here. So this area is especially photographically very interesting for me. One thing I noticed immediately: Mexico is a very green city. In hardly any other metropolis have I seen so many trees and tree-lined avenues. The second thing that surprised me right away during my first city walk: Despite very relaxed covid rules in international comparison, the inhabitants of Mexico behave very disciplined when it comes to wearing face masks. Even outside, on the open street, you can hardly see anyone not wearing a mask.
Der Paseo de la Reforma ist eine der berühmtesten Straßen der Stadt. Hier befinden sich auch die höchsten Wolkenkratzer Mexikos. Somit ist diese Gegend vor allem fotografisch sehr interessant für mich. Eines ist mir dabei sofort aufgefallen: Mexiko ist eine sehr grüne Stadt. In kaum einer anderen Metropole habe ich so viele Bäume und Alleen gesehen. Die zweite Sache, die mich gleich bei meinem ersten Stadtspaziergang überrascht hat: Trotz sehr lockerer Corona-Regeln im internationalen Vergleich, verhalten sich die Einwohner Mexikos sehr diszipliniert, was das Tragen von Schutzmasken betrifft. Selbst draußen, auf offener Straße, sieht man kaum jemanden, der keine Maske trägt.
In terms of prices, Mexico City is said to be one of the most expensive cities of the country. For Central Europeans, however, the prices are still very reasonable. For example, a meal in a fast food restaurant costs about 3.50-4.00€. A good apartment in the Reforma area costs about 30-40€ per night. By the way, Uber works especially well and efficiently here.My 25-minute ride from the airport to my accommodation cost me only about 5€. For this reason alone, I would recommend you to buy a prepaid sim card when visiting Mexico City. It costs about 10€ at the airport and is valid for one month.
Preislich soll Mexiko City zu des teuersten Städten des Landes zählen. Für Mitteleuropäer sind die Preise aber trotzdem sehr günstig. Ein Menü in einem Fast-Food-Restaurant kostet beispielsweise ca. 3,50-4,00€. Ein gutes Apartment in der Reforma-Gegend ca. 30-40€ pro Nacht. Besonders günstig und effizient funktioniert hier übrigens Uber. Meine 25-minütige Fahrt vom Flughafen zur Unterkunft kostete mich nur knapp 5€. Allein deshalb würde ich euch empfehlen, eine Prepaid-Simcard zu kaufen, wenn ihr Mexiko City besucht. Diese kostet am Flughafen ca. 10€ und ist einen Monat lang gültig.
My second city walk took me to the historic center. One of the most famous buildings I visited, you can also see on the cover image. It is the Palacio de bellas Artes. Equally impressive is the Monumento a la Revolución. An elevator and some narrow stairs take you to the top and give you a first overview of the city's size.
Mein zweiter Stadtspaziergang führte mich ins historische Zentrum der Stadt. Eines der berühmtesten Gebäude, die ich besuchte, seht ihr auch auf dem Titelbild. Es handelt sich um den Palacio de bellas Artes. Ebenso beeindruckend ist das Monumento a la Revolución. Über einen Lift und einige enge Treppen gelangt man hier nach oben und kann sich einen ersten Überblick über die Größe der Stadt verschaffen.
The center is much busier than Reforma. I was quite overwhelmed by the crowds and the many different impressions. This was especially true of the pedestrian zone that connects the Palacio de Bellas Artes with the Plaza de la Constitucion. The latter is not only the center of the city, but also one of the largest city squares in the entire world. Here you can find the Cathedral of Mexico City, which impresses with its architecture both inside and outside.
Das Zentrum ist wesentlich belebter, als Reforma. Ich war ziemlich überwältigt von den Menschenmassen und den vielen verschiedenen Eindrücken. Das betraf vor allem die Fußgängerzone, die den Palacio de Bellas Artes mit dem Plaza de la Constitucion verbindet. Letzterer ist nicht nur der Mittelpunkt der Stadt, sondern auch einer der größten Stadtplätze weltweit. Hier befindet sich auch die Kathedrale von Mexiko City, die sowohl innen als auch außen mit ihrer Architektur beeindruckt.
Wow, what a city! The first two neighborhoods I visited already showed me how diverse Mexico City is and yet I have only seen a tiny little fraction of the metropolis. I am already very excited about what else I will experience and discover here and of course I want to continue to tell you about my impressions.
Wow, was für eine Stadt! Die ersten beiden Viertel, die ich besucht habe, zeigten mir bereits, wie vielfältig Mexiko City ist und doch habe ich erst einen winzig kleinen Bruchteil der Metropole gesehen. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, was ich hier noch alles erleben und entdecken werde und natürlich möchte ich euch auch weiterhin von meinen Eindrücken berichten.
