Beauties of Czech Republic: hiking in enchanting Bila Opava Valley

Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!

As promised in some of my older posts, I am finally here today with a pretty extensive photo report covering the largest and most interesting part of our recent hike in the Jeseniky Mountains, the second highest mountain range of the Czech Republic. This post will be dedicated to the beauty of an extraordinary place called the Bila Opava Valley.

The official Bila Opava Valley hiking trail starts in the picturesque little spa town of Karlova Studanka and it ends at a famous mountain lodge known as Barborka from where, it is just a relatively short and easy walk to the top of the Praded Mountain that I wrote about in this post last week. The hiking trail covers just some 6 km (3.7 mi), which may not seem like much but it actually leads through a very rough terrain with many difficult passages so the hike can easily take you 3 or even 4 hours, depending on your fitness and dexterity. It is also important to remember that the trail has a significant elevation difference - the beginning of the trail is located at approximately 800 m (2,625 ft) above the sea level but its final elevation is 1,325 m (4,347 ft).

Bila Opava is a boisterous mountain stream and one of the three original tributaries to the River Opava (together with Cerna Opava and Stredni Opava). It is often considered the most beautiful stream of the Jeseniky Mountains as it forms a number of impressive waterfalls, cascades and rapids, meandering through the pristine nature full of lush green forests and unique rock formations.

It was raining a lot in the previous weeks and months so the stream is quite turbulent now and the waterfalls nice and robust. I just wish my cell phone camera supported the long exposure function that would allow me to capture all the spectacular water movement but unfortunately, it didn´t so I had to make do without it. Another thing that my camera really struggled with was the stark contrast between the powerful summer sunlight and the dark shades of the magnificent trees so even though me and my camera did our best, the quality of some of the photos is not as good as I would wish. Yet, let me now show you a collection of 25 pictures of the natural beauties of the Bila Opava Valley that I took during the hike.

I hope you enjoyed this post that was dedicated to a beautiful natural place called Bila Opava Valley. To be honest with you, I am not really sure if this place can still be referred to as one of the hidden gems of my country because while it may still be largely unknown to many foreign visitors, it´s actually very popular with the locals. The trail can get quite crowded on the weekends and holidays, especially when the weather is nice. Rainy days come with much fewer visitors here but it also makes the trail more dangerous because of all the wet and slippery stones that you have to get over so make sure to consider this when planning your trip to this place ;)
