Hello friends, today we continue with the discovery of the area south of Bari in the Puglia region, after having seen the northern area of ββthe city of Polignano a Mare, today I will introduce you to the center of this beautiful seaside village.
By car along the state road south towards Brindisi, take the "Polignano a mare-Castellana" exit, then follow the signs for the center and in two minutes you will find yourself in front of the beautiful and ancient entrance to the town, the beautiful " Arco Marchesale" or also called "Porta Grande", an entrance that dates back to the 1500s.
For those arriving by train, the Polignano a Mare station is about a 5-minute walk from the historic centre, a pleasant walk among monuments, historic sites and all kinds of shops.
I enter the door and I find myself in the main street of Polignano and on the sides you can already see its famous alleys, despite the fact that the most touristic period is the summer there are many tourists also from abroad to admire this place.
I continue walking and arrive in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, a beautiful square full of clubs, shops and places to eat, the square is dominated by the beautiful Mother Church of Santa Maria assumed in heaven, a church built on an ancient hypogeum, this is probably a place sacred for over a thousand years, I also recommend visiting the inside of the church as it houses interesting works of art, interiors that I have not been able to photograph because it was forbidden and I have respected the indications, but if you want you can find photos online.
I continue getting lost in the beautiful alleys decorated for Christmas, you can find several artisan shops that sell everything from clothes to ceramics and not forgetting the food ... there are many fishmongers that sell fresh fish every day, restaurants, and many other types of food typical of the Puglia region.
You can taste delicious raw fish dishes or the very famous and delicious grilled octopus to be enjoyed inside a sandwich, really excellent.
GRILLED OCTOPUS SANDWICH
TARALLI (Bakery flavored in various ways, these were to rap)
PASTA WITH FRESH MUSSELS
Following the signs through the alleys you can reach the various balconies that overlook the sea from the city center and allow you to see the town from the sea and the caves below it.
The historic center is also full of accommodation facilities, especially B&Bs where you can stay while remaining in the city centre.
Being accustomed to hosting many tourists from all over the world, the country offers many services such as organized boat trips, guided tours, shows and concerts in the squares and much more.
What can I say my friend, I suggest you take a tour in these areas because you will have a great time and the people are very helpful for anything.
All the photos were taken by me and the stories are part of my personal experience π
