In 2023 an anime movie was released that everyone was applauding for the aesthetics it showed. For going against the grain and using 3D in a very interesting way, for touching on a subject that is not touched on much in anime: music. The anime I'm talking about is Blu Giant, and recently, bored, I started watching it on my laptop, something that makes me a little embarrassed to be honest, since I feel it's a movie I should have seen on the biggest screen possible. A film that dazzles from the beginning but in its final stretch brings out all the good it has to give, throwing all the meat in the frying pan, making the director bring out his greatest creativity in that montage that works wonderfully.

En 2023 se estrenó una película de anime que todo el mundo estaba aplaudiendo por la estética que mostraba. Por ir en contra de la corriente y usar el 3D de una forma muy interesante, por tocar un tema que no se toca mucho en el anime: la música. El anime del que estoy hablando es Blu Giant, y hace poco, aburrido, me puse a verla en mi laptop, algo que me da un poco de vergüenza la verdad, ya que siento que es una película que debería haber visto en la pantalla más grande posible. Una película que deslumbra desde el principio pero que en su tramo final saca a relucir todo lo bueno que tiene para dar, tirando toda la carne en el sartén, haciendo que el director saque su mayor creatividad en ese montaje que funciona de maravilla.

Blue Giant is really hard to recommend. While watching it, even though I noticed how good a movie it is, I couldn't help but notice that it was very “anime”, am I right? Who has time watching anime understands how there are anime that can work for all audiences and how there is anime that only works if you like anime, which is not necessarily bad, but it does make movies like this one have a barrier to be known by the world, so I understand why they don't sound much, though, as I know there are anime lovers here, I have to ask you to watch blue giant, to put up with some of that bad 3D (which honestly, at the beginning I wasn't liking but in the end it ended up catching me), and to let yourself be carried away by one of the best experiences that an anime movie has been able to give in the last years.

Blue Giant es, realmente, difícil de recomendar. Mientras la veía, a pesar de que notaba lo muy buena película que es, no podía evitar notar que era muy “anime”, ¿me doy a entender? Quien tiene tiempo viendo anime comprende como hay animes que pueden funcionar para todo el público y como hay anime que solo funciona si te gusta el anime, lo cual no es necesariamente malo, pero si hace que películas como esta tengan una barrera para ser conocidas por el mundo, por lo que entiendo que no suenen mucho, sin embargo, como sé que aquí hay amantes del anime, tengo que pedir que vean blue giant, que aguanten un poco de ese mal 3D (que sinceramente, al principio no me estaba gustando pero al final me terminó atrapando), y que se dejen llevar por una de las mejores experiencias que una película de anime ha podido dar en los últimos años.

Blue Giant follows Dai Miyamoto, a saxophonist and jazz enthusiast who, along with his roomie Tamada and a guy he meets at a concert, Sawabe, decide to form a jazz band. This reminded me a lot of spokon anime, and it's somewhat understandable that they are similar, since being a musician and not hitting the notes or the rhythm your teammates are hitting feels the same as being a player who isn't doing his best with his team. The fact that they show the frustration of being behind those who have a talent, or those who have practiced all their lives, is something completely real, something that blue giant does very well.

Blue Giant sigue a Dai Miyamoto, un saxofonista entusiasta del jazz que junto a su roomie Tamada y un chico que conoce en un concierto, Sawabe, deciden hacer una banda de Jazz. Esto me recordó mucho a los animes spokon, y es que en cierta forma se entiende que se parezcan, ya que ser un músico y no llegar a las notas o al ritmo que están llegando tus compañeros se siente igual que ser un jugador que no está dando lo mejor de sí con su equipo. El hecho de que muestren la frustración de estar atrás de los que tienen un talento, o de los que han practicado toda su vida, es algo completamente real, algo que blue giant hace muy bien.

Besides that, something you may like more or you may like less, but the music in the film often feels dirty. When they are practicing or even at some point in the concerts, you can hear how they make mistakes and that seems to me as real as it is precious, because it makes me think about how thoughtful those details were when making the film, in showing the characters being real people who make mistakes. That also happens when showing them looking for a job, telling us almost to our faces: fight for your dreams, learn, practice, but don't forget that you also have a life to maintain.

Además de eso, algo que te puede gustar más o te puede gustar menos, pero la música dentro de la película muchas veces se siente sucia. Cuándo están practicando o incluso en algún momento de los conciertos, se escucha como se equivocan y eso me parece tan real como precioso, ya que me hace pensar en lo pensado que estaban esos detalles a la hora de hacer la película, en mostrar a los personajes siendo personas reales que se equivocan. Eso también pasa al mostrarlos buscando un trabajo, diciéndonos casi a la cara: lucha por tus sueños, aprende, practica, pero no olvides que también tienes una vida que mantener.
