I love Bangkok. It has the best of all Thailand represented. Food, art, culture, music and more. I recently had to go up there for a few days business and I had some free time to kill so I went to an amazing warehouse area known as Warehouse 30. It has 2 very cool art galleries, some great little restaurants a vintage clothing shop and some furniture exhibitions.
Behind those big red barn doors was my favourite part - a small but very lovely art gallery that was free to enter and permitted anyone to take photographs. There was an exhibition on from a Portuguese artist called Vhils - he specialises in etching and his work just blew my mind. Makes me realize just how talented you have to be to make in the art world as an artist.....
This same artist had done an amazing wall etching on the street leading to the neighbourhood. Its simply amazing how the further you move back from the image the more detail is revealed.....
This neighbourhood of Bangkok is called Charoenkrung. It's kind of the Chinatown area that backs on to the river. There are many small streets to explore and lots of street art. I especially like this street that had the buildings plastered with magazine style photos and articles of the history of the area....
The next cool thing was more interesting for my bf - an exhibition of classic motorcycles. Don't ask me the details of what they were but although I didn't share my bf's enthusiasm it was difficult not to appreciate the beauty of these old bikes - they were all BMWs and restored beautifully.
Well no trip to Bangkok is complete without eating amazing food, either on the street or on the roof of a five star hotel. Look at this delicious meal of king prawns with a light salad....
To be honest give me street food every day, noodle soup with fishballs - we call Luk Chin Pla in Thai.....
That was my weekend away in Bangkok. Now back to work. Hope you liked it - I can wait to go back!
