Ruleset strategy / analysis: Close Ranged

Ruleset strategy.png

Introduction

This week we take a look at the close ranged rule set.
Not a difficult rule set. Most of the time it does not change my setup that much.

Ruleset

Monsters with ranged attacks are allowed to attack in the first position.

Official ruleset information from splinterlands: List-of-In-Game-Rulesets

Abilities Synergies

Normally range have less health so I like when the equalizer is also in the mix.

Often do not much pay attention to close range, most of the time the decision on which monster select are based on other criteria.
Of course all ranged attack monsters benefit from this rule set.

When this rule set is active I like also to play summoner with ranged -1
Furthermore headwinds and return fire are nice counters, because the chance is higher that there will be ranged monsters.

Most monsters that already have close range are the tanks with high health .
see examples:

The other range monster most of the time have low health and therefore not suited to take the first spot.

If you have the chance you can use the summoner mine is not at a level where I could use it. This counter every ranged monster your opponent will bring 😁.

Strategies

Select

There are some monster imo that realy benifit from this rule set these are:
Runemance Florre - High health when it gets in the front it can still dual
Merdhampir - when it gets in the front is should already have gathered some extra health
Uloth Dhampir - With the triage to heal monster in the back line and stun no problem when it gets to the front. Only got mine at level 3 sofar 😌

Preferred teams

Really depended on other factors like:

  • Other rulesets
  • Mana cap
  • What you opponent is often playing
  • What cards and level do you own/rent

Here are some setups that I like to play. Viewed with the levels and stats that I own.

Summoner#1#2#3#4#5#6

Some extra counter against ranged and magic, with a touch of magic reflect.

Avoid

Avoid monsters with ranged attack , 🤣 really I try to stick to my normal game plan if there is opportunity that a ranged monster gets in the front that is nice I will not design a whole team around this rule set.
I'm curious what the other battle reports will be and hope to read some nice different strategies.

Example battle

Strategy

No magic monster all have scattershot and ranged monsters may also attack from the first position.

Rulesets

Close Range:
Rule set of this week. All monster will receive the close range ability making it possible for ranged monsters to attack from the first position.

Aimless:
All monster will receive scatter shot. Highly unpredictable with ranged. Nice to use some blast if possible

Lost Magic:
No magic monster may be used.

The Lineup

Summoner

CardReason
For this diamond battle the only summoner I can choose.

Monsters Lineup

#1#2#3#4#5#6

Baakjira (lvl 3)
Eventough there are no mana monster it has a lot of health and with the heal i can uphold for a long time.

Sand Worm (lvl 2)
High damage still only on level 2 sometimes a nice pick to avoid the scattershot in this case

Deeplurker (lvl 10)
One of the strongest monsters, opportunity to pick on the weakest monsters demoralized to weaken the melee monsters. And then poison love this monster.

Pelacor Bandit (lvl 10)
again sneak to avoid the scattershot ability

Angelic Mandarin (lvl 8)
Last season upgraded to get the silence. Even tough this battle silence not useful it is mainly made the team for the triage.

Wave Brood (lvl 4)
Strong health monster that already has close range so this does not benefit from this rule set.

Rounds

Start :

image.png
Both teams are not utilizing the close range rule set.
Pretty similar setups. Like the rust and repair of my opponent. lets see what is better repair or heal the backend. Full targeting power will be done on the swamp spitter

Round 1:

image.png
Swamp Spitter is dead. strong start so my heal can triage the backline.

Round 2:

image.png
Almost Baakjira down. and poison landed on Noa the Just still looking strong enemy is not getting past the backline yet.

Round 3:

image.png
Lets see if my whole team can survive still looking strong in this round.
I'm curious when the rust monster dies if my shield are coming back.

Round 4:

image.png
Shields are back on.
This is an easy win, also nice from time to time. Because my win rate has drop much after the sift from gold to diamond

Round 5:

image.png
One more monster to go. I think one more round or there are many misses 🤣.

Round 6:

Win

Conclusion

Sorry to say that this was not a battle to show off close range after paying for two days only a few matches with close range rule set. And as stated in the beginning not a rule set I build my team around it.
Never the less fun to write about close range and to explore more opportunities to change my strategy. Hope to read some other strategies where I change my mind and build a specific close range team
