We arrived in the city of Quito at night, a -very- rainy night in March 2021. They had recommended us a hostel, "Juanito's house" so in view of the deluge that was falling, and that it was already night We asked a taxi to go directly to the place.
The cost was quite high, that's when we realized that Quito is really a BIG city. In the end, Natalia negotiated a bit while I took care of the cats and the luggage, she managed to get a shared taxi and it was a little less expensive that way.
Llegamos a la ciudad de Quito por la noche, una -muy- lluviosa noche de Marzo del 2021. Nos habían recomendado un hostel, "la casa de Juanito" así que en vista del diluvio que estaba cayendo, y de que ya era de noche, preguntamos a un taxi para ir directamente al lugar.
El coste era un poco bastante alto, ahí nos dimos cuenta que en verdad Quito es una ciudad GRANDE. A la final, Natalia negoció un poco mientras yo cuidadaba a los gatos y el equipaje, logró conseguir un taxi compartido y así fue un poco menos costoso.
A nice and cozy place, Wi-Fi, kitchen, good location and good price. | Un lindo y acogedor lugar, Wi-Fi, cocina, buena ubicación y buen precio.
Kitchen and Internet, it was a great success since in Ambato, where we were before, we didn't have any of those two things, so we immediately started preparing many delicious meals, we missed home cooking a lot.
Cocina e Internet, fue un gran éxito ya que en Ambato, donde estuvimos antes no teníamos ninguna de esas dos cosas, así que inmediatamente empezamos a preparar muchas deliciosas comidas, extrañábamos mucho la comida casera.
We visited various places and parks, above all parks. "Parque La Carolina" is huge and very nice, the surroundings of the park are exceptionally beautiful. Quito in general is a very nice city to look at, like every big city it has its uncomfortable aspects, they are not a big deal. The weather is pleasant and temperate, although it sometimes rains very unpredictably.
We also went to "El Ejido" park, extremely beautiful and by no means small, with lots of nature and places to walk, play and exercise.
Visitamos varios lugares y parques, sobre todo parques. El "Parque La Carolina" es inmenso y muy agradable, los alrededores del parque son excepcionalmente bonitos. Quito en general es una ciudad muy bonita de mirar, como toda ciudad grande tiene sus aspectos incómodos, no son gran cosa. El clima es agradable y templado aunque a veces llueve de manera muy impredecible.
También fuimos al parque "El Ejido", sumamente bonito y para nada pequeño, con mucha naturaleza y lugares para pasear, jugar y ejercitarse.
We also had the opportunity to visit Quito's famous gothic cathedral with some friends. It was a very pleasant afternoon and the cathedral is very imposing, huge and beautiful. A delight to the sight. I recorded some videos that I should upload to 3Speak to show you guys.
I loved knowing that place, although we couldn't go up the tower because it had a cost, it wasn't cheap and there was no budget, hehe.
También tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar la famosa catedral gótica de Quito, con unos amigos. Fue una tarde muy agradable y la catedral es muy imponente, enorme y bella. Un deléite para la vista. Grabé unos vídeos que debería subir a 3Speak para mostrarles.
Me encantó conocer ese lugar, aunque no pudimos subir a la torre porque tenía un coste, no era barato y no había presupuesto, jeje.
One very good thing about our time in Quito was that I was able to stock up on new ropes, guayas, carabiners and other implements for the tightrope walking shows. That allowed me to work with more security, tranquility and versatility. In addition to everything being much more beautiful than before.
It makes me happy, like a child with new toys.
Una cosa muy buena de nuestro paso por Quito fue que pude surtirme de nuevas cuerdas, guayas, mosquetones y otros implementos para los shows de cuerda floja. Eso me permitió trabajar con más seguridad,tranquilidad y versatilidad. Además de que quedó todo mucho más lindo que como lo tenía antes.
Me hace feliz, como un niño con juguetes nuevos.
In "La casa de Juanito" we did not stay long, for reasons beyond our control. The house was vacated and we had to change hostels, that's always a bit annoying but after going through a place that wasn't pleasant at all, we arrived at a hostel called "Casa Gato". We spent a couple of very pleasant weeks there, I remember that there was a nice view on the terrace. Too bad I didn't take photos from there.
En "La casa de Juanito" no estuvimos mucho tiempo, por motivos ajenos a nuestra voluntad. La casa fue desocupada y tuvimos que cambiarnos de hostel, eso siempre es un poco molesto pero luego de pasar por un lugar que no estuvo nada agradable, llegamos a un hostel llamado "Casa Gato". Allí estuvimos un par de semanas muy agradables, recuerdo que en la terraza había una linda vista. Una lástima que no tomé fotos desde ahí.
In "Casa Gato" there was a super cute puppy, I don't remember exactly his name, he had a human name like "Sebastián" or "Alberto", something like that. What I do remember well is that he was very nice and well-behaved, we used to go for a walk with him and take some nice walks around the area, there were very nice places to walk with the puppy.

En "Casa Gato" había un perrito super lindo, no recuerdo exactamente su nombre, tenía nombre de humano tipo "Sebastián" o "Alberto", algo así. Lo que sí recuerdo bien es que era muy bonito y bien portado, solíamos salir a pasear con él y dar unas lindas caminatas por los alrededores, habían lugares muy agradables para pasear con el perrito.

Something that caught our attention about Quito, in addition to how beautiful it is, is that its streets have a large amount of urban art, a large amount of very good quality graffiti, and all kinds of decals. From conceptual artistic projects, to social and political criticism. I love that.
Algo que nos llamó la atención de Quito, además de lo bonita que es, es que sus calles tienen una gran cantidad de arte urbano, una gran cantidad de grafitis de muy buena calidad, y calcomanías de todo tipo. Desde proyectos artísticos conceptuales, hasta crítica social y política. Eso me encantó.
And well, at the end of April it was time to pack our bags, immensely grateful to the city of Quito and happy for the good time we had, the new friends, and the new reunions with old friends!
We grabbed our kitties and continued our journey, excited as always about the new routes to come...
Y bueno, finalizando Abril ya era el momento de hacer maletas, inmensamente agradecidos con la ciudad de Quito y felices por lo bien que la pasamos, los nuevos amigos, y los nuevos reencuentros con viejos amigos!
Tomamos a nuestros gatitos y continuamos nuestro viaje, emocionados como siempre por las nuevas rutas que estaban por venir...
