Koh Somed Thailand

A shocking statue at the Koh Samed Port

My wife and I have been traveling for the Christmas and New Years holidays. Our first destination was Mae Phim Beach. Mae Phim is a remote beach near the city of Rayong. The beach is not the best but very accessible and most of the tourist were Swedish and Thai. We were fortunate to find a condo with private beach access and an amazing room. Not to mention the price was very cheap.

Mae Phim was hit very hard by the effects of the pandemic so many restaurants and services were closed, which made it difficult to find a variety of food and get around. Hence the cheap prices. However most of our time was spent lounging around on the beach so the inconvenice didn't effect us very much.

Like most Thai Beaches, Mae Phim Beach had amazing views of sunsets.

After Mae Phim, we took a taxi to Rayong, where we took a ferry to Koh Samed. The Ferry costs about 120 Baht ($4) per person to take an older wooden boat. We could have paid more for a speed boat, but we didn't mind the slower option.

As soon as we stepped off the ferry in Ko Samed we were greeted by this shocking statue. After a quick Google search, the statues seem to be related to Thai Folklore related to mermaids. If you have anymore detailed information leave a comment below.

We arrived on Ko Samed about 40 minutes after departure. We caught a taxi to our destination ad rode for about 10 minutes. The taxi took us on a hilly beach front rode to our hotel. Which was this cute beach front hotel with about 6 rooms. It was owned and operated by a Swedish/Thai couple that we found on Airbnb. The room was okay but the view from the room was spectacular.

We spent our time on Koh Samed beach hopping on a rented motorbike. The beaches on Koh Samed were so much different from the mainland because the water was crystal clear. The beaches were also more remote and a little more difficult to reach.

Some of the amazing beaches on Ko Samed.

We also found this restaurant that served Marijuana infused dishes and drinks. Apparently CBD based products are becoming more and more common I. Thailand. My wife ordered a Tea that she thought tasted amazing, however, she didn't feel much afterwards.

Overall our experience on Koh Samed was phenomenal and I would recommend everyone visit.
