A beginner's guide to earning 150 Ecency points a day.

In my humble opinion, I think that the Ecency App is the most suitable frontend for a beginner to start their journey here in Hive. Both the Web app and the mobile app are easily accessible and very easy to use. The user experience is also top-notch and comparable to any mainstream social media that I used before.

The main reason why Ecency is easily the go-to app for beginners to experience the social media aspect of Hive is because of the Ecency Point system. The Ecency points serve as a utility token for the app and it's exclusive to the app itself. You may use the points to either:

  • Promote your post
  • Boost your post
  • Gift to other Ecency users

It may be limited to 3 utilities but it goes beyond to those that I mentioned and I will explain as I go through my post. Before that, let's discuss earning Ecency points.

Although you may purchase the Ecency points through the mobile app, I would like to focus on the ways to earn them for free. There are a number of ways to earn them, these are:

  • Make a post (earns 15 points)
  • Make a comment (earns 5 points)
  • Upvoting a post (earns 0.3 points)
  • Share / Reblog a post (earns 1 point)
  • Using the app (earns about 0.25 points/hour)
  • Usage bonus (earns 10 points)

Apparently, writing a post earns the most reward, and then next to that is commenting on a post. Something to bear in mind is that there is a decay in the reward system, which means that the more you use the app the less reward you get for every action you made. That is probably a way to mitigate spam posting or spam commenting through the app.

In my experience using the app, I made it to the Ecency Leaderboard Top 20 most active users by performing a total number of 48 activities (combination of posts & comments) and managed to earn 95 Ecency points. I learned that the quantity of activities is not directly proportional to the ecency rewards earned. The most important thing to bear in mind is the quality of your activities and this is especially true when it comes to the comments you give to a post. You may be crunching 100 comments but it will only earn you about 30 to 40 ecency points because the comments you made only consist of a few words and you simply copy and paste them to several posts.

Don't even attempt to comment spam. The community won't like it and you're simply wasting your time for little rewards.

As I mentioned earlier, quality should be your main priority. Provide meaningful comments and engage truthfully with the authors of the post. Upvote a post, comment on it, and reblog if you wish to share it on your page. That's going to earn you a solid amount of ecency points and potentially an upvote from the authors as well. That's like hitting 2 birds using 1 stone.

Now that I earned 95 ecency points, the big question is how do we earn more to reach a daily goal of 150 ecency points?

Going back to the list that I mentioned earlier:

  • Using the app (earns about 0.25 points/hour)
  • Usage bonus (earns 10 points)

Basically, your consistent use of the app will earn you a bonus reward of about 15 to 25 ecency points. I spent about 8 to 12 hours using the app since I usually check my notifications every hour and engage with other users as well. So, to add all the points earned, it will reach a total of 110 ecency points. That means we are still 40 ecency points away from our goal.

Here's a bonus tip that I will share with you; in your Ecency mobile app, there is a way for you to earn points for free. But it requires a bit of luck... let me show you.

In your wallet, there's a "Get Points" button that if you click on it will bring you to a page where you may "spin the ecency logo" to win you a random amount of points that range from 1 point to as much as 45 points.

The free spin will be made available to you once every 24 hours. And that's how you can achieve your goal of earning 150 ecency points daily!

You are probably wondering why set a goal of 150 points. As mentioned earlier, there 3 main utilities for the points; you may use them to Gift them to other users, Promote your post, or better utility which is to use them in Boosting your post.

The cost of Boosting a post requires a minimum of 150 ecency points. By boosting your post, you will receive a 1$ "whale" upvote from the @ecency account. With the current price of $Hive that will earn you about 1.30 Hive/HP, which is a much-needed amount to grow your Hive account. Maintaining a consistent activity using the Ecency app will definitely grow your account and grow your connection to other users as well.

As a final note...

Engagement is King!
