Merrasjärvi :: Daily and Fresh 📷 (13/366)

Hello!

This image is not just one image, but actually a composite image of two differently shot images. A little bit oldskool in a way.

In these days of cameras that can shoot photos in almost pitch dark, and software that can easily bring out detail from seemingly utmost failed images, people often overlook the ways photographers used to create their work back in the old days of film photography.

This technique I am about to discuss can also be used to create simple high dynamic range photos, as well as what I did with this photo.

In the morning, I visited Merrasjärvi, and took some photos there.

Since I didn't have much light, and my tripod is still broken, I couldn't use a very small aperture to get everything sharp, so I went about it in a different way, and shot two photos with a wide aperture, each focused on different parts of the scene. The first focus was on the pier, and the second one on the forest over the lake.

First I edited them lightly in Darktable, and then moved the resulting images into Gimp, where I layered them, slightly repositioned and scaled them to fit, and then used the masking tool to reveal the sharper forest under beneath from the blurred one.

The resulting image here:

I hope you like it! 😁

Plenty of things to do so...

See you soon!
