The month of December has a unique feel to it. It's not just because it's the holiday season and a time when families get to spend a lot of time together, but also because it is my birthday. I decided to do a photo shoot for my 30th birthday. You see, photoshoots are the in-thing these days, and maybe doing one was all I needed to get a guy to shoot his shots at me. Get some fleek pictures on my various social media handles and patiently wait in my DM for the first person to come knocking. I couldn't wait for the photoshoot day to arrive because it was going to be magical.
Everything was set. I double-checked my boxes once again to make sure everything was going smoothly. Clothes, shoes, and hair were all checked; all that was left was a makeover and a "Sexy Diva" photoshoot. Oh yeah! I planned on showing the girls how it was done. The photoshoot session has already been scheduled, and all I needed to do was get myself to the make-up studio for a new look.
My phone rang, and it was Annie, my best friend since forever.
"Hello, babes, have you left the house?" She asked.
"I'm about to leave the house for the make-up artist's studio".
"You and this make-up I still don't understand why you insist on a makeover, but then do you. See you at the studio in two hours. I hope you'll be done by then."
"I hope so too", I chimed and hung up.
I arrived at the studio two hours later, all dressed up and waiting for my girlfriend. I didn't need anyone to tell me I was beautiful; the stares were sufficient. You can't just look at a beautiful girl once; you have to look at her again and again. Oh! I was feeling so fly. My birthday was only 24 hours away, and the world was about to see me in a way they'd never, especially Wale, who has changed my title from dear to sister. I'm definitely leaving that sister zone.
Annie was running late. I picked up my phone and dialed her number, but she immediately hung up. I tried calling again, and then I saw her walk past me in the studio. I called out to her, and she turned to look at me, but her expression was more of horror than excitement.
"How do I look? A sexy diva, huh? I gushed, standing up and striking a post so she could get a good look at me.
"More like a sexy devil. Where is one of your eyelashes?"She inquired, pointing to my left eye.
I reached out and found it gone. Little wonder I was suddenly seeing clearly with that eye. "I suppose it is gone with the wind. It was flying while I was on the bike.
Annie was in stitches. She chuckled and snorted so hard that her stomach hurt, and she had to bend and support it with one hand. I stood waiting for her to calm down because I could not figure out why she was laughing so hard. She tried stopping, but the laughter would not stop.
"It's indeed a makeover because you've transformed from Zizy to an Egyptian mummy. I bet your mother won't recognize you, let alone Wale".
"Isn't that the whole essence of a makeover?" I bemoaned.
"Makeover is to highlight your beautiful facial features and not to make you look like a Halloween costume."
"I paid $2 for this".
"No doubt! That's why the foundation rebels against blending, leaving harsh lines and uneven patches, and your eye shadow looks like artwork done by a mischievous artist. And what is the deal with that red lipstick? I'm sure you bargained hard and infuriated the make-up artist.
Annie was right. I have a great bargaining skill, and I used it to beat the price down from $10 to $2. I walked over to the mirror stand in the changing room and took another look at my face. I couldn't recognize myself either. My brows were so far apart, it looked like a parted red sea. With one of my eyelashes missing, I resembled a cartoon character. It made me laugh, and Annie joined in. We laughed so hard that tears streamed down our cheeks. I didn't mind if it smeared my make-up. I was planning on cleaning it off anyway.
Was the photo shoot successful? It was indeed. I removed all my make-up and put on my best face, and the photos turned out beautifully.
