#BeerSaturday 246! Thar be rum and Quads and Art!

I became a beer blogger naturally due to years I have spent brewing for myself, working with breweries on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist and am cranking up the Beerology game this year.

For week 246, we tackle a quad and revisit an old friend with a new coat.

Non-Pint of the week

My brother is in Mexico on vacation with the family and this picture he sent makes me remember our trip October last year. Seeing as vacation means day drinkin', we came up with a strategy on how to do that and not get beered out. Filing a little rum into the rotation did just that. The drink of choice was dark rum with soda water and lime. Refreshing but boozy without having to crush pints into your gut.

I am getting in on the action these days by shuffling in a few of these babies using my soda stream and some of the great variety of dark rum on the shelves here. It appears I had a little medium term memory loss or mild amnesia because I looked in the cabinet to find I had purchased 2 different bottles. Not a bad problem to have and a nice change from beer from time to time.

Quads!

Before my beer purist followers revolt, I better assure them I have not slacked on searching out and presenting the wildest beers in this region for your review. This one from old favourite https://www.flyingmonkeys.ca/ was used tactically over the last few weeks as a solid kick in the pants to fuel the gaming sessions.

This Space Age Sunshine https://www.flyingmonkeys.ca/beers/spaceagesunshinequad is a quadruple IPA which borders on the ridiculous. The design is bold and entertaining as most of the Flying Monkeys brews tend to be, and a substantial 11.6% alcohol by volume (ABV) is nothing to take lightly. Instead of Strong beer, they have gone that next step and classified it as an Extra Strong beer.

You can dig back a few blogs and find a review of Psycho Thrill Seekers Double IPA @zekepickleman/beersaturday-233-double-haze-all-in-my-brain or even farther back for Sparkelpuff Triple IPA but this one is that extra push over the cliff as it literally goes to 11. <===Spinal Tap reference! It is definitely a sipper. It has qualities of a strong malt liquor but softened up with a bit of the fruit character of IPA Definitely not a beer to be chugged or doubled up on in a session but an enjoyable punch to the mouth.

I can see adding 1 to my basket when I go again!

More Collective Arts!

IMG_3687.jpg

Those who have shared pints with me since the dawn of #beersaturday might have hazy recollections of the first tales I told of the Collective Arts https://collectiveartsontario.com/ numbered IPA series and their always available varieties of IPA. Combining new and progressive/experimental IPA recipes with a new piece of art featured as the unique branding on each is right up my alley. I do enjoy the numbered IPA series and probably always will but I do like to add old favourites to my fridge.

Life in the Clouds https://collectiveartsontario.com/collections/beer-cider/products/life-in-the-clouds-ipa used to be a regular IPA, then they enhanced it to a New England variety, then again to a double dry hopped (DDH) brew. Not only that, but it has been a long running beer and the art evolves as it carries on. The art in the online store is different from this one because they actually picked a few designs in honour of International Womens Day

"In honour of International Women's Day, we worked with five artists for a special-edition series of Life in the Clouds. Curated by Toronto-based Emily May Rose (emilymayrose@emilymayrose), this series includes art pieces by:
Keight MacLean (keightmaclean@keightmaclean)
Allison Bamcat (allisonbamcat@allisonbamcat)
Jennifer Ilett (jenniferilett@jenniferilett)
Planta Muisca (@muisca)

These are Twitter or Instagram handles but I believe they should have Hive accounts as artists with great creative content.

Well done again Collective Arts! You may be close to the lead in receiving my illusive seal of approval and Life in the Clouds was as delicious as I remember. Fantastic support of women in art too and I love the vibrant new designs.

Serious warning right there!

246 consecutive weeks of #Beersaturday?!? You know we have one of the longest running group of drinkin' buddies across the globe and any blockchain. Talk about consistency and a good reason to pull up a beer and warm up the winter? Hit up @detlev/cheers-and-prost-here-is-beersaturday-week-246 for the weekly #beersaturday post, grab a pint, and join in the fun with a beer story of your own.

This week, I am again inviting xplosive@xplosive who is worrying about the folks in Ukraine with us and could use a beer. At least 3 pics and lots of beer stories.

Cheers to our global family of beer-drinkers!!
