I became a beer blogger naturally due to years I have spent brewing for myself, working with breweries on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist and I am cranking up the Beerology game this year.
For week 250, I am jonesing to tell you about the brewery we are getting ready to launch and visiting one of my all time favourites.
Pint o' the Week
I like to alternate between The Shorty of the Week and The Pint of the Week for #BeerSaturday. Shorties, like the ones last week, are great little snack beers I like to keep in the fridge and fool myself into thinking I am doing the responsible thing by drinking a smaller beer.
This week, I am back out in public talking beer and business with this stellar pint. There are a few things that make this pint epic including the cathedral backdrop, beautiful amber colour for a lighter beer, and the fact that we brewed it ourselves. I don't mean to tease the story of the launch of our brewing operation. We are just waiting on the special Tied House Liquor License https://www.agco.ca/alcohol/manufacturers-tied-house-and-glass-liquor-sales-licences which permits a restaurant to sell the beer it brews. We have settled on a recipe for a golden ale you can read the paper through and will hopefully be able to sell that batch soon. Stay tuned and enjoy your pints of the week.
A Visit to Great Lakes Brewing!
With all the trips to the big city to jam with the boys for our upcoming show, I have taken the opportunity to stop by one of my all-time favourite breweries. Great Lakes Brewing https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/ is predominantly responsible for my sublime slide down the slippery slope of IPA obsession. You may recognize a few of these characters from past blogs. I think they are Haze Mama https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/hazemama/ (or maybe Pale Al? https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/pale-al-brut-pale-ale/ )Octopus Wants to Fight https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/octopus-wants-to-fight-ipa/ , Robohop https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/robohop-ne-double-ipa/ and Pompous Ass https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/pompous-ass/ I still think the illustrations are highschool art class but they do make for fun and colourful art for great beer.
Retronym IPA
I called upon the expertise of the Beerista to help me select limited run IPAs that are not available in the beer stores away from the borders of the big city. Retronym IPA https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/retronym-ipa/ was 1 of the 2 I picked out because I had never even heard of it before visiting.
I like how they combined the new and old with the hazy coupled with the increased malt and lower IBU. While I do like juicy piney North American citrus beasts, this was a tasty beverage even by comparison.

Karma!
Karma Citra https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/karma-citra/ is one of my all time favourite IPAs. Sweet and delicious, hoppy enough but not obnoxious, bold but not thick, and the only drawback is that it is only available in the spring every year. So, I was hoping they would have some fresh Karma Citra in stock upon my visit. No such luck.
Luckily for me, they had the next best thing! Karma Simcoe https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/karma-simcoe-ipa/ is simply a swap pf the Citra hop for Simcoe. The label smacks of chakra or some spiritual stuff which does seem to match the karma theme.
The Simcoe hop from the Yakima Valley apparently made its debut around the year 2000 and some of the best IPAs I have had over the years has had Simcoe in the mix. So, I was looking forward to sampling this variety!
This is a damn tasty brew! As a bonus when I look closer, there is actually a Karma Sabro https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/karma-sabro-ipa/ as well and I am going to have to make a trek to the beer store and see if I can score some more.
