Time flies when you are having beer. Every day is #beersaturday but specifically on Saturdays, I transform into the Blockchain Beerologist!
I became a beer blogger years ago because of the blockchain, my need for a weekly column, and an age-old obsession with beer. Add that to the years I spent brewing for myself, and the breweries I work with now on their technology and marketing, you get the perfect recipe for a #blockchain #Beerologist.
This week, the lockdown has lifted and we have been moved to Orange/Restrict level. What this means is bars and breweries are open again for those looking to safely enjoy a pint! Here are a few local ones this week in my neck of the woods.
For the last while, I have highlighted a 'Shorty of the Week' as I love having 6 shorter (355ml) cans of craft beer in the fridge for when a tall can is just too much. With the recent reopening of restaurants after a month+ of lockdown, I find myself able to snag a pint of draft at restaurants! How I have missed that!
This week, I discovered that Jobsite Brewing https://www.jobsitebrewing.ca/buybeer still had some of the limited run Dovetail - Hazy Pale Ale with Guava. I generally like to taste the latest and greatest but I am also partial to playground, one-off brews and had to snag a 6 of this tasty, different beer. Great at the beginnning or end of an evening!
This is a special double shot of local for y'all. Not only am I finally enjoying one of my top 5 favourite IPAs https://black-swan-brewing.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/india-pale-ale-ipa from local Black Swan Brewing https://blackswanbrewing.ca/, it is in a special venue.
The Red Lion Room https://redlionroom.ca is a local venue which has opened in the last 2 tough years and has had a rough go of it because it is primarily a live music performance lounge. If lockdowns shutter indoor dining, it sure as hell does so with live music venues. They have stayed engaged with the community with take-out marketing and order processing, and with the musicians for when it is time to open again. When the order came, these guys booked 6 weeks worth of local entertainers andare ready to go.
I was lucky enough to visit during the lock down as part of business meetings and feel kinda blessed to have had a place to safely go. Good people, support local in a big way, and good beer.
This next pint is brought to you by @town-crier and local Heritage Hops Brewery https://heritagehopsbrew.com/ It was time for our first post-lockdown business meeting and
@sequentialvibe immediately suggested pints at Heritage Hops. We were welcomed by old friends when we arrived and it was good to see them smiling and back in business.
This pint was one of those 1-off brews you only get to see for a limited time. You can't find it on their webpage it is so exclusive but was described to me as a Chocolate Milk IPA. After a sample taster revealed some of the familiar yeast and hops that make me such a fan of the East Coast IPA, I had to give a whole pint a go. The first few sips presented me with an earthy chocolate hint and then that lactose sugar sweetness and texture, then a smooth flow back into their characteristic hops. Another notch to put in my belt as I strive to sample every beer on the planet!
It was a serious meeting a couple months in the making so I had to double down and go for one of my old favourites. 21 Haze East Coast IPA https://heritagehopsbrew.com/collections/ipa still holds a spot in my top 10 because of its sweet taste, powerful hop balance, and general availability because convenience counts! It is only a bonus that it is local as I would buy it if it were otherwise.
So great to be bellied up to my seat in one of the 3 local breweries I call home. Mask or not.
Good things come in 3s and here is my third stop for the week. The vessel is adorned with the label of Four Fathers https://fourfathersbrewing.ca/ but is actually a Speed Wobble http://www.redlinebrewhouse.com/the-beers/speed-wobble/ from Redline Breweries http://www.redlinebrewhouse.com/ which I have visited and reviewed several times. Revival House Stratford https://revival.house is the only place in town you will find this on tap so I get it every time. Pale and amber and clear and strong and tasty!
I JUST got home from dinner at RH and will be sure to post a @tasteem like review as we had a whole dinner. The family enjoyed the experience immensely but you will have to wait til Monday or Tuesday to get the inside scoop.
Each of these beers get my seal of approval. So good to be back out enjoying a pint in the community and giving each of these brews and establishments a little reciprocal Beerologist love.
You would think 192 weeks of #beersaturday would take its toll on your liver but it really isn't the case! Fact is, besides beer and tea/coffee, beer is the next most popular beverage on the planet and my physician told me this week 14 or less a week is good for you! @detlev/jeaaah-beersaturday-week-192-calls-you-to-join so you should pull up a pint and heed the call.
I invite a friend to the party every week and this week it is @silvertop who is my generation and would be great to have a beer with?
Cheers DOODS!
