I became a beer blogger naturally due to years I have spent brewing for myself, working with breweries on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain#Beerologist and am cranking up the Beerology game this year.
For week 240, we have a couple visitors from Jobsite, a tough lady friend, and a new beer not available for another week and a bit.
Shorty of the Week
For the shorty of the week, my intent is to have some small cans in the fridge for when a pint is too much or a nice one-off brew is the perfect change...or both. That being the case, I often feature Jobsite Brewing Co. https://www.jobsitebrewing.ca/ because they are one of three breweries in this small town, the make a FINE IPA, and have been pumping out the yummy small cans for years. Perfect for the last hour of a night of weekend gaming!
I like a sour and I love an IPA but haven't found too many that combine the 2 and do justice to each. This is about as close as you can get as there is definitely juicy with hops that don't totally get soured out. Glad I grabbed one and had that little surprise in the fridge.
Plaid Days NEIPA
Speaking of Jobsite and one off new beers, I was pleased to see the announcement of this beer. Plaid Days NEIPA is too new to even be on the ordering page so you heard it here first! Jobsite is a New England IPA specialist and this beer is fantastic. I would definitely like to see this one become part of the regular rotation but that may be a tall order.
This is a collaboration of sorts merging a couple businesses as far as I can tell. There is Jobsite (obviously) and there is Backroads Brews & Shoes (an athletic clothing store with a coffee bar and tap room?) and Backroads Hops Farm. A little manic in the partnership but there is nothing wrong about teaming up with other regional businesses when it results in a fantastic beer with local ingredients. I WILL buy this again.
This one is going to have to get my coveted seal of approval. Well done Jobsite on creating a collaboration and another in a long line of IPAs I really enjoy.
Hey Ladies!
One of the best small breweries in this region is Elora Brewing company https://www.elorabrewingcompany.ca/ They have quietly produced excellent pale ale with a nice sweet taste for years, and really don't get enough shelf space here only an hour down the road. When I see a new IPA on a shelf, I am happy. Even moreso when it has a neat illustration on it and the can jumps off the shelf when it is a new beer from a brewery I already like.
Lady Friend IPA https://www.elorabrewingcompany.ca/current-beer is a curious brand and I figured there must be a story behind the brand. Hitting the website, the description is "This bear-punchin', thirst quenchin' juicy IPA has notes of sweet papaya, ripe melon and young spruce tips, and is balanced with a round malty character and firm bitterness. ABV: 6.0% // available in 473ml cans" So, no real story behind the brand but a characteristically sweet and juicy bee with a good bear-flattening punch. I will taste this again and really have to visit the Elora Brewing Company tap room.
Time to Brew
I have a whole project in the works to enhance the #Beerologist brand here on Hive and an associated story to tell of a brewery 10 years in the building. We still are in the Proof of Concept phase and have to get the permits in place before we fully launch.
Still, I can leak some of the content to my legions of blockchain followers. This is what our first batch looked like a day after brewing. We are normalizing the ambient temperature of the brewery to the optimal fermentation temperature of 68-71 Fahrenheit (20-22 Celsius) and testing out the setup. Despite being a little cool, the yeast is definitely yeasting and we are in business.
A couple days in and the foam is dissipating as the yeast starts its journey to down into the liquid.
Day 3 and we have a solid 71 degree temperature and it is starting to look like beer! a little foam on top and the yeast is completing its process under the surface. A little taste and we have a malty and beery-tasting, though somewhat flat hint of what we will have.
We head in this week to rack the batch into 3 separate vessels to experiment with different hopping, lagering and filtering. Tune in next week for the progress and a tasting!
It is week 240 of #Beersaturday and it feels like only yesterday we were planning the week 200 festivities! Talk about consistency and a good reason to pull up a beer and warm up the winter? Hit up @detlev/beersaturday-week-240 for the weekly #beersaturday post, grab a pint, and join in the fun with a beer story of your own.
This week, I am again inviting a new friend @loveth01 who joined us this November and should have a beer in Nigeria! Minimum 3 pictures, any language!
Cheers to our global family of beer-drinkers!!
