I became a beer blogger naturally due to years I have spent brewing for myself, working with breweries on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain#Beerologist.
For week 239, we have the reveal on the Cameron's Brewing Stack Pack and give you the results of the big showdown!
Shorty of the Week
After the mixed backlash or me lauding a non-alcoholic beer on last week's Shorty of the Week, this week I am nursing 6 old favourites from local Black Swan Brewing https://blackswanbrewing.ca Daniel the Spaniel is on board with this Black Swan IPA https://black-swan-brewing.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/india-pale-ale-ipa with its newly upgraded label, mosaic hops, and bold & beautiful taste that has kept it in my top 10 for several years. I also like the variety of malts in it as they play well with eachother but don't screw with the hoppy taste.
Always love to have 6 shorties in the fridge for that early afternoon or late evening instance where a full pint is just a few sips too much.
Cameron's Brewing - Stack Pack
A couple weeks ago, I introduced you to the Cameron's Brewing https://cameronsbrewing.com/, Stack Pack https://cameronsbrewing.com/product/stack-pack/ that I was lucky enough to snag off shelves after the holiday season ended. I do love me some Cameron's beer and seeing the variety of beers I have never tasted along with a game I can play with the family, I gave it a hell ya and brought it home.
I reviewed the Bock and Rye Pale Ale here @zekepickleman/beersaturday-237-behold-the-stack-pack and was definitely pleased. When you are a hop-obsessed IPA head like this beerologist, you would consider the New England Double IPA as saving the best for last.
Let's get into it!
Bad Robot!
My fellow hop heads and blog followers will know that they have me at New England IPA. When you add that it is a double, and it tasted like 2 fantastic IPAs crammed into 1 can, the fact that it comes from a brewery I already like makes it a no brainer. If this Stack Pack had a bullshit Gose and a Light Lager in it with no stacking game, I would still buy it to get at the Double IPA which is sold out individually.
Robots are pretty cool too.
You can see I poured this a little aggressively into the nicely branded pint glass and it came out a nice hazy and thick yellow and the head dissipated quickly enough. I still received the coveted foamy mustache when I took my first draft.
When you scan the side label, you catch all the buzzwords and details to make your mouth water. Weighing in at a whopping 8.2% ABV but a reasonable (for a double IPA) 67 IBU, the suggested food pairings are with bold and tasty dishes. It boasts the wheat and oats for a thicker and smoother texture and it also features all 3 of my favourite hops. Mosaic, Citra AND Galaxy! What a beer! Seeing it listed as sold out gives me a trace of hope it may be for sale again. If so, I will snap more up for sure!
Because of the brewery, style, and the hops they graciously included simply to please me, this one gets my coveted seal of approval! Well done Cameron's! Quite possibly the best beer I have tasted from your wonderful brewery! P.S: Make more!
Game Time
Now for the REAL reason everyone tuned in today: That jenga-style stacking game that was part of the gift pack and to watch me get my ass beat.
Striaght out of the box, you can see it was set up a little wrong, on the 4th & 5th rows from the top. I noticed while taking the starting shot so we corrected it and the game was ON!
We started 11 levels high and got to 20 here where my back is against the wall. Every other level below is made up of blocks that can't or won't move. The rows above are too high to manipulate without toppling things and I am down to a block and a prayer. Holding my breath, I gingerly work it free and try not to cause the wipeoput.
For seemingly the first time in the game, my little one is the one in a tough spot. Will her wizardry continue and could she possibly pull that last piece out?
Down she goes. It was a tough one but I managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. I don't take it easy on my little ones when we play games in part because of my competitive nature. Also to help them earn a win rather than someone falsely pull punches to gift them a win and rob them of a learning opportunity. I rooted for her and tried my best to win in a fun little activity inspired by beer!
