Cath painted her nails, post-manicure, after going to the ‘lunar spa’ operating on the lunar base. She had chosen a dark green, almost mossy in texture. The spa had become one of her favourite pastimes since working on the moon. As she worked for the university, they provided subsidised gym and spa memberships, which meant despite Cath’s financial hardships, she could afford to look after herself every now and again.
She did however think that having to pay for the gym on the lunar base was absurd. Despite the artificial gravity produced by the ‘revolutionary magnet technology’ that ran beneath her feet, exercise was still mandated for all lunar residents. Either you ran around the base, frustrating all the other inhabitants, did body weight exercise in your apartment, or forked over cash for a gym membership. Not particularly fair, as her friend, Sara found out. Sara worked for the private company, Growth Matters, in the same department as the other university funded botanists. But, as she wasn’t a member of the university, or any other public service, she had to fork over nearly £100 a month just to keep gym privileges, compared to Cath’s meagre £20 a month for both the gym and spa.
Content with her nails, Cath made her way over to her living room and turned on the TV. Homes under the Hammer.
Cath fist pumped and quietly roared, “Yes!”.
Her favourite day time TV show, and she’d barely missed the intro.
