The smell of smoke and alcohol hung on the upholstery and in the air of their local tavern. The regulars were as rowdy as ever but kept it to the right-hand side of the establishment, mainly for their own sake. Nip had responded violently to a drunkard harassing their table before, threatening to blow the entire place to dust with her in it after having a tankard of ale spilt on a newly fashioned contraption.
The owner now has a permanently reserved table for the party, begrudgingly, to keep Garrick sweet due to his penchant for hard liquor and his mammoth tolerance to alcohol.
Slipping through the crowds and between tables, the barman brought a tray of drinks to their table, dropping it a few inches onto the sticky hardwood. Some booze sloshed out of full tankards, leaving the drinks swimming in a pool of froth. Garrick slammed an open palm into the barman’s back, jeering and flashing an ear-to-ear grin. The barman steadied himself on the table, barely keeping himself upright after the well-meaning slap.
“Keep yourselves out of trouble, right?” the barman raised his eyebrows to Sara, the most sensible of the group.
“Will do, Samuel.” Sara slipped her tankard off of the tray, raising it as an assurance to him.
“Good to hear,” Samuel headed back to the bar, wiping away some of the ale that splashed onto his hands into his already filthy apron.
