The spring air filled my senses. I’d waited twenty minutes in the park alone for her before she finally arrived. Her hair was in a perfect bun, and her polkadot dress hung to her curves, highlighting her silhouette. I could feel the sweat culminating on my forehead, my hands grow clammy, and the blood rush to my ears.
“Hi.” I held the lilies in front of me, with a sheepish grin plastered on my face.
“Lilies? My favourite! Thank you.” She accepted them and gave me a peck on the cheek. My heart near leapt out of my chest as my hand reached to touch the site.
“I heard you mention it to Claire.” I stared at my feet for a moment. “In all honesty, she gave me the idea.”
“Sounds like Claire.” She smiled warmly at me. “…Anyway.” Holding the lilies at her side she swayed idly back and forth before breaking the silence. “My parents are moving. I wanted you to hear it from me. And I wanted to… say goodbye.” Her cheeks flushed red. The air caught in my throat as the words rang in my head.
“Uhh. Okay. I… Uhh.” My brain began to short circuit and I tried my best to do anything, say anything.
“Come on, I’ve got something to show you.” She took me by the hand and lead me towards the wooded area in the park. I nearly tripped over my own feet before matching her pace. My head was swimming with doubt and trepidation, but a clawing sense of optimism slowly crept into the back of my mind as we stopped in the small woodland copse.
