Today's Prompt: Pigeon-hole
Fire whipped through the air, flashing with streaks of purple and blue as it escaped Lawrence’s fingers. The crowds cheered the exemplary performance, as Lawrence reared back and extinguished the floating flames with a burst of ice-cold water. The steam rose above the arena, before being whipped into a swirling dance of crackling storm clouds. Lightning began forming in its midst, crashing down into the stone floor a few feet from Lawrence’s competitor. The crowd erupted into a cacophony of praise at the intense spectacle of power on display. Lawrence bowed to the Queen, sat in her royal box, and turned to face his rival.
“I can’t believe they would think you’re even a match for me. The Queen’s own sister; not even a glint in the eye of Lawrence the Magnificent. Pigeon-holing me with the likes of you common magicians, don’t make me sick.” Lawrence stepped off the stone stage and exited the arena, his crimson cape dragging behind him. Mari’s sullen face caught the glimpse of her sister, who flashed her a sympathetic gaze. Shuffling off the stage, the ringmaster returned to quell the crowd’s roaring applause.
