Let’s make a hypothesis that you want to play a musical instrument for real without last minute studying and making excuses to your teacher!
So the question is how to become a better musician ?
Just become a better person !
And may this be the title of my next post analysis ;)
But is it all about attitude and emotional reaction?
Of course NOT BEFORE some fundamental work is done !
Here are 6 easy tricks that helped my growth on the sax, and are still helping me!
Water your reed in a glass of water first and afterwards use your saliva to soften it more efficiently due to higher hydration.
It is all about daily consistency and not quantity, this means that 1 hour of practice per day worth double than one day of seven hours playing per week.
Music like sports requires muscle memory and daily practice is essential for developing the technique.
Master your scales and especially the chromatic one and arpeggios by making different variations of staccato and legato such as only legato, only staccato, double staccato, note by note staccato etc..
Practice long tones as a warmup routine.
Try blowing one note for the maximum amount of time that you can in one breath.
This helps you attain note consistency, better breathing quality and focused blowing
Always wipe clean your horn after each training session both for maintenance and key to pad response
For example Β flat often gets sticky from saliva and/or room temperature.
Thanks for your time !
