Three months ago I went to Sword and Board Hobby show and packed out my miniatures that are at least mostly assembled as above. That post is Here.

Now I am well and truly getting into the painting of the models as well as getting ready to play again.

In the 3rd till 6th edition that I played an Army followed something called a Force Organization Chart. There was just one and it went like this:

There are different unit types:

HQ - The leaders of the army
Troops - The basic foot soldiers fo the army
Elites - Elite troops of some sort
Fast Attack - Fast units like bikes of fast vehicles
Heavy Support - Tanks and units with heavy weapons.

The same units (and more) exist now in 9th Edition but now battles are fought with "Battleforged Armies" These are the new Force Organization Charts but with the following twist:

Depending on the size of the battle, you will have a certain amount of Command Points, these points are used yo purchase Detachmanets.

Battle Size is determined by looking at Power Level and/or Points limit. A standard game at Tournaments in Cape Town is 2000pts, thus the Strike Force with 12 CP.

In this case, the Strike Force can be made up of a maximum of 3 Detachments. Each of those Detachments are made up of the unit types:

The extra ones are:

  • Flyer - This is aircraft travelling at top speeds
  • Fortification - As it sounds, you purchase a building and set it up on the table.
  • Dedicated Transport - This used to be purchased with the squads but now how a separate slot on the FOC.
  • Lord of War - A big, ultra special and super hardcore detail!

Then you need to select the following Detachment types. I am going to focus on the 3 main sized Detachments that are quite balanced. I will omit the specialist Detachments.

Patrol Detachment

This Detachment costs 2CP but if your Warlord is here, you get 2 CP back!

You MUST take 1 HQ and 1 Troops choice.
Then you can have a max of 2 HQ's, 3 Troops, 2 Elites, 2 Fast Attack, 2 Heavy Support and 2 Flyers

Battallion Detachment

Compulsary here are: 2 HQs and 3 Troops.
With a total max of 3 HQ, 6 Troops, 6 Elites, 3 Fast Attack, 3 Heavy Support and 2 Flyers

Brigade Detachment

Compulsory: 3 HQ, 6 Troops, 3 Elites, 3 Fast Attack, and 3 Heavy Support.
But with a total max of: 5 HQ, 12 Troops, 8 HQ, 5 Fast Attack, 5 Heavy Support and 2 Flyers!

Planning for the future!

I want to muster my armies so that I can field them as a single, unified Imperial forces in a massive battle.

I also want the kids to be able to play the game with me and this includes my kids' friends. Thus I will begin with the Patrol Detachment, for each of the different armies I have, I will need to paint up a Troop Choice and an HQ and then start filling out the other slots!

I just need to finish painting zombies!

Cheers!
