Warhammer 40k - S&B Tournament Round 2 - Zak's Ironwolves vs Champions of Russ
Hello everyone! Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa and welcome back to another Battle Report from the last Sword and Board Warhammer 40,000 Tournament.
You can read the previous Battle Report Here! where I played against a fellow Space Wolf player who fielded a sneaky Vanguard Strikeforce.
Because I won in that battle, it meant that I now needed to draw against another player who had won their last game and who had similar VP as I had.
And I draw to play against: Keegan - Space Wolves!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I laughed a LOT at this. Two Space Wolves in a row, against ME, a Space Wolves player! Well... this Space Wolf was of another color as
This Space Wolf's army was drastically different!
The hustle and bustle of the lower numbered tables meant that players here were placed higher in rankings.

Analysis
This army is very different from mine and
What a line-up!
The Mission
The Mission Cards and my objectives!
The Deployment: Hammer and Anvil (again)
Primary Objective: Sites of Power
Sites of Power only gives you VP for holding all objectives and if you hold an objective in No-Man's-Land, with a Character, then it gives you even more VP.
Mission Rule: Chilling Raid - so no modifications
Secondaries:
Assassination and Bring it Down.
Keegan has enough Characters for a 20VP score for me. Bring it down he has only 3 vehicles giving me a possible 8VP which is a bit low, but I knew I would get that 8VP.
Deployment
Ironwolves Deployment
I push for my usual aggression, right on the edge of my deployment zone. My opponent does not have the kind of anti-tank that would be able to stop a full armored advance. Even if he took something down, it would almost always need the full attention of all of his Anti-armour.
From my Left to Right: Vindicator, Wulfen Dreadnought, Vindicator, Razorback, Land Raider, Bjorn, Ballistus Dreadnought, Razorback, Redemptor Dreadnought.
Champions of Russ Deployment my Right Flank
Wulfen, Long Fangs and Rhino with Grey Hunter.
Centre field is Murderfang and Predator tank.
Champions of Russ Deployment on my Left flank is Logan Grimnar leading Thunderwolves and another Thunderwolves Pack. (Across from both of my Vindicators!)
Champions of Russ Deployment - a reserved deployment as though he is waiting for something.
A large squad of Wolf Guard Terminators and Arjac in reserve. Ragnar and Blood Claws also in reserve.
Analysis
When my opponent puts too much value and points into reserve it means that his deployment is automatically weaker than mine in points. This means that I MUST capitalize on the first turn and do massive amount of damage to my enemy, preventing his reinforcements from equalizing the battle!
Turn 1
Turn one I rolled forward in typical Stormwolves tradition. I took all three No-Man's Land objectives. I take down his Rhino transport and his Grey Hunters have to disembark. I also deal some damage to Thunderwolves and his Predator.
In his turn he holds back, not really committing much and not dealing much damage.
Turn 1 I earn 2VP, my opponent earns 0VP.
Ironwolves Left Flank Turn 1
Ironwolves Turn 1
Some fiendishly good Dice rolls!
Ironwolves Turn 1
Turn 2 and onward
In turn 2 I score 9VP for holding all 3 sites of Power. With a Character on one, I earn an additional 3VP for a max of 15VP!
I also assassinate two of his characters that turn... but this is really his own fault...
Ragnar Blackmane arrives with his Blood Claws to attack my army!
He fails his charge here and Ragnar and his boys out left out in the cold!
An epic situation as The Murderfang and a pack of Wulfen charge Bjorn the Fellhanded!
Murderfang and the Wulfen both make their charges and all attack Bjorn before he can make a move but only manage to do 2 Wounds of damage on Bjorn's total of 8 Wounds!
Bjorn swings back at Murderfang and... wrecked! He rips the other Dreadnought Character apart!
Being a both a Character and a Vehicle, this earns me 6VP!
My opponent manages to destroy one of my Razorbacks and scores his Take no Prisoners.
Turn 2 points: Zak 27VP, Keegan 7VP
Turn 3:
With Characters surging forward, I take aim and let loose. Logan Grimnar, the High King dies as does the Young King, Ragnar Blackmane all thanks to my superior firepower. His support tank, the Predator is also felled this turn.
I keep holding and empowering objectives with my characters and at this stage is becomes a bit of a landslide and I wipe out nearly all his units
Arjac Rockfist close-up
Champions of Russ Turn 2, Arjac and Wolf Guard Terminators arrive!
Final Results: Zak's Ironwolves 87VP, Keegan's Champions of Russ 22VP
Zak wins Round 2!
I actually managed to score the most points I could out of this opponent!
Well, this means that I was in for something truly nasty in the next round. I have been in this situation before. Two wins... and then you get a really tough opponent. Well, bring it on!
See you tomorrow with another Battle Report!
Thank you for reading!
