Goood day everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town and this post is all about the very last battle that I had at the King of the Cape Warhammer Tournament!
The general post is HERE. Up to this point I had Loss - Win - Loss and Win results in my 4 games up till now.
Thus, in this game, you end up against someone who was fairly close to you in the standings towards the end.
I matched up against a played called Robert and he plays Adeptus Mechanicus! Wonderous days! Another army (that I would love to collect) that I have never played against!
Rob started going through some of his army rules and guns and things and I must admit... it was a LOT. A LOT of guns, a LOT of rules. It was quite intimidating.
However, it was the last game of the tournament. I was nowhere near any sort of standing so the best and worst case scenario is that I would have a lot of fun and I get to see how the Mechanicus plays!
So this rendition of what was in the Mechanicus army will be a little hazy... but here goes:
3x Mechanicus Characters. Each one was able to give different boosts to squads
2x4 Ironstriders - Those are the big walkers with the lascannons, they are deadly!
2x30 man Skittarii Squads
1x20 Skitarii
1x3 Horses that scout forward
1x Vehicle that contained some tough CC troops
1x squad of other Close combat specialists
2x more small squads of Skittarii that were just for holding objectives.
In this particular game we deployed in diagonal corners. I got to choose my side to deploy in and I got first turn. We needed to capture points along the middle while performing an action on an objective in our deployement zone in order to download information from the objective markers.
I pretty much took the fight to the board and the whole game I held multiple objectives and scored far more than my opponent in the Primary Objectives category. The Mechanicus have some pretty awesome secondary objectives that give them loads of VP for killing tanks and characters and this is where they hauled back the points enough to give the Mechanicus the win!
Rob is a really good player, but I feel that I did really well with my tactics in this match! I used my Wolf Priest with Jump pack to prevent the Mechanicus from teleporting a massive unit into my back lines.
Beyond that, my firepower was good, but the Mechanicus had far better firepower. Also so many rules and buffs and things! Crazy!
This is the final post about my match deep dives. If you have read the other ones, thank you for reading my posts and thank you for reading this one if this is the only one that you have seen so far!
Cheers!
